Rua Diagnostics

Rua Diagnostics, a spin-off company of the Weil Institute, was named one of the most promising health-tech start-ups during the 2024 Texas Life Science Forum. At the event, Rua presented its “micro-GC” device, a portable analyzer that can detect a range of highly prevalent and lethal conditions directly at the point of care using only a sample of exhaled breath. The device is completely non-invasive and can provide both a diagnosis and information on disease stage in 30 minutes. The micro-GC platform was developed by a multidisciplinary team of Weil Institute members led by Dr. Xudong (Sherman) Fan, Associate Director of the Weil Institute and Richard A. Auhll Endowed Professor of Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Dr. Kevin Ward, Executive Director of the Weil Institute and Professor of Emergency Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. I had a wonderful time talking about Rua Diagnostics at the University of Michigan's Innovation Partnerships Celebrate Invention event! It was great to spend the day at UM, meeting so many ‘Zoom’ friends and developing new connections within Michigan’s Innovation community. A special congratulations to Kevin Ward, MD , Rua’s inventor, who was honored with the Innovator of the Year award! Collaborating with Dr. Ward to develop Rua’s capabilities into a care delivery tool to revolutionize early diagnosis of disease has been a privilege. Rua is pioneering a new era in point-of-care diagnostics with its groundbreaking breath analysis technology, developed at UM and the Max Harry Weil Institute for Critical Care Research and Innovation.
