After devastating floods displaced 8 million people in Pakistan, around 45 local Rotary clubs launched a climate-resilient initiative to rebuild rural communities — the Smart Villages project. The island’s fertile land produces valuable spices like cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, attracting traders for centuries. Zanzibar’s mix of African, Arab, Persian, and Indian cultures is reflected in its warm hospitality and laid-back nature. Locals live by hakuna matata (no worries) and pole pole (take it slow) 🌿 The Rotary Club of Zanzibar Stonetown, founded in 2005, has 15 members dedicated to supporting this vibrant community.

David LaMotte has spent his life sharing powerful stories—through music, writing, and speaking. After an illness in 2001 forced him to reconsider his purpose, David pivoted from a thriving music career to building peace on a global scale. As a Rotary Peace Fellow at the University of Queensland, he delved into international studies, focusing on peace and conflict resolution. Since then, David has authored books, given TEDx talks, and founded programs that promote connection and understanding across divides.
