“Protecting rights is a core responsibility of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. Since I became Attorney General in 2019, we have worked tirelessly on the legal front to protect the rights, dignity and safety of all members of the LGBTQ community in employment, health care, access to goods and services, adoption, and combating hate crimes, to name a few areas. My office is prepared to challenge efforts to rollback LGBTQ rights; we’re in it for the long haul.” Thank you, Attorney General Phil Weiser, for your commitment to protecting the rights, freedom, and safety of LGBTQ+ Coloradans.

While we don’t know yet what will happen, concerns that existing federal protections may be rolled back or new harmful policies will be implemented are valid. But there are protections for trans folks at the state level in Colorado:

It's important to celebrate the wins, even when there's a lot still up in the air.
We did it! Colorado voters have taken a stand for personal freedom and equality—including protecting same-sex marriage and reproductive healthcare. These are critical wins that will impact our community for years and generations to come. I am proud of everything Rocky Mountain Equality, our amazing team, and our community did to secure these rights. Here’s a look at the outcomes for two key ballot measures: Amendment J: Freedom to Marry Colorado has updated its state constitution to protect marriage equality. This amendment reaffirms that everyone deserves the right to love and marry freely, ensuring protections for LGBTQ+ families, regardless of federal changes. Amendment 79: Constitutional Right to Abortion With Amendment 79’s passage, Colorado now enshrines abortion access as a constitutional right, guaranteeing essential reproductive healthcare for all and securing coverage through state health plans. We know it may be hours or even days before we know the outcome of the presidential election. Regardless of the outcome, the fight for equality will continue at the state and federal levels, and Rocky Mountain Equality will continue to advocate for and support LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and communities in 2025 and beyond. Thank you to everyone who voted, volunteered, and advocated. Together we’re building a more inclusive Colorado where every individual is seen, valued, and protected. Let’s continue this momentum to advance freedom and equality in our state. Onward, together.
