About us

About the Reparations Race: The Reparations Race was founded in December 2022 by Erin Corine Johnson, Founder and CEO of Hola Magnolia Identityworks. Inspired by the story of a DIY reparations movement organized by a small Vermont town in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020, this movement is designed to empower people at the community level to act on behalf of economic restorative justice in tangible ways by pouring resources back into the Black people, communities and business instead of waiting for local and national governments to act on behalf of disenfranchised, underrepresented and underestimated descendants of chattel slavery. Since 2022, the Reparations Race has facilitated the redistribution of over $50K USD in direct cash payments and service-based contributions by non-Black members of the Hola Magnolia Identityworks community of individuals, partners and sponsors. The Reparations Race Organization is a division of Hola Magnolia LLC. Visit us on the web and join our mailing list at reparationsrace.org!

Thank you for being part of our origin story. On this day 2 years ago, The Reparations Race began as a humble experiment with the hopes that every person involved walked away with more than they came in with. Since 2022, we’ve facilitated the redistribution of over 100K in cash payments, goods, services and paid job leads to Black business owners, artists and activists during our three active campaigns and our off-season pop-ups like One Day’s Pay. That’s 100K more than would have been moved had I refused to do this a little scared and uncertain. And I think that’s beautiful. Solo-parenting has drained every ounce of resolve I had to make this a bigger deal today. I wanted a live-a-thon. I wanted to make noise. I wanted to shout from the rooftops. But sometimes, the biggest act of revolution is to defy urgency with ease. To resist the inclination to pour and instead, replenish. The time to flood your feeds with calls to action will come back around. For now, I’m focused on bringing my business back over the finish line to a full recovery after a catastrophic but lesson-filled summer by January 31. I know we got this because you got us. And you’ve proven it over and over again. So thank you. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for proving that this work works. All I ask of you is to make sure you are signed up to support our last Accomplice Accelerator Do-the-Work Day of the year this Sunday. We are the smallest bit away from our next milestone, and I am sure we can get there. Details below. Happy Birthday to the #ReparationsRace. I’m so very proud of us. Now let’s get back to work. 🌟

It’s the week after Juneteenth, and I’m feeling the lull. There is work yet to do. Will you be joining us?

  • Today’s the day! HAPPY JUNETEENTH and welcome to the 3rd Edition of the Reparations Race! To our US Black Community, we wish you a glorious day of rest, celebration and fellowship. At The Reparations Race, we use this holiday as a bridge to the diaspora. Beyond our mission to raise awareness and educate the masses on the importance of community-led micro reparations as we commemorate the legacy of freedom, perseverance, art and innovation of the Global Black Community. We acknowledge the sacrifice and honor the memory of our ancestors and elders. Their wisdom is our solace, their stories our guide. Let today be more than just a day to remember, but a day to pick up where they left off. As our Ancestors Fannie Lou Hamer once said, “No one is free until everybody is free.” Let the fight for equity, racial healing and restorative economic justice continue. Third Time Makes A Tradition. Let the #BuyBLACKJuneteenth Reparations Race begin. 💙❤️ #BlackLinkedIn #ReparationsRace #Reparations #Equity #HolaMagnolia

"I'm going to the beach!" "I'm going to sleep in!" "...But what are you doing to amplify, uplift and transfer wealth to the Black Community?" ::silence:: ...And that is why we're here. The countdown to Juneteenth 2024 and the 3rd Edition of the #ReparationsRace continues with this special pop-up conversation titled: "Dear White People: No, Juneteenth Is Not Your 'Rest Day.'" Nora DiNuzzo, ardent supporter of The Reparations Race, Founder of Pitcher and Co-founder Blood, Sweat & Tears for this special cross-table conversation discussing ways to take your aspiring allyship, advocacy and accompliceship on behalf of the Global Black Community to the next level. This conversation is not about shame, guilt or self-centered feelings. It's about understanding all of the big, medium and small ways you can take sustainable and responsible ACTION beyond simply having a day off from work, a luxury many—Black people in the US included—still cannot enjoy. It's going to be a dense and deeply moving hour of conversation, because it always is. We'll see you there!
