  • So thrilled to have artwork by two of our Cafe Members included in this wonderful upcoming show by Tricia Creason-Valencia, MFA and Destination: Home -- including the piece by Jackie Owens shown here. Cannot wait for Tuesday.

  • We have so much to be thankful for this season: with your support, we’ve provided 1,200 hours of small group support in 22 weekly Recovery Circles, served more than 400 people mental health and life skills training through our School for Recovery curriculums, and shared more than 40,000 nutritious meals in community. • We are so excited to introduce Julie Anderson as the new Executive Director of Recovery Café San José. Julie has been in-house for two weeks already, and she's served as a Cafe volunteer and board member in recent years. As an organization we appreciate exactly where we are and are ready for the chapter ahead; if you'd like to learn more or just say hello, please reach out to Julie!

I am definitely the luckiest person in the entire world. Two weeks ago I started transitioning into the ED role at Recovery Cafe San Jose, a place which provides a sober community of support and services for people recovering from addiction, abuse, homelessness, and mental health issues. The Cafe's support of healing community takes many forms: a safe and welcoming Cafe; nearly 1,000 fresh and healthy meals; and nearly 250 people gathering in 22 Recovery Circles each week - alongside an educational and engaging calendar of daily activities. The magic of transformation, of course, is in the relationships between Cafe Members, staff, and volunteers - and I feel so honored to join this community as stewards of this amazing place. Looking forward to the adventure ahead!

  • Executive Director Transition Dear Friend and Supporter of Recovery Café San José As you may have heard, Kathy Córdova has informed the board of directors of her decision to step down as the Executive Director of the Recovery Café. We are grateful for her many contributions to the organization and her willingness to remain with the Café during the search for her successor. I hope you will join us later this spring to celebrate Kathy’s many contributions to the RCSJ community. Watch your mail for further details. During Kathy’s 4-and-a-half-year tenure, the organization has undergone numerous changes with many significant accomplishments including: •43% Membership growth reaching over 500 members annually receiving healing support and anew community. •Meals – our dedicated kitchen staff and volunteers have increased the meal service by 50%,providing over 3,300 meals a month. •Over 1,000 Recovery Circles have been conducted during the year, providing emotional supportand loving accountability each week for all members. •Revenues have also grown (almost keeping up with service demand) highlighted by governmentgrants enabling expanded peer support services. •A strategic planning process was undertaken resulting in the adoption of a Strategic Plan andupdated mission - Recovery Café San José creates community that supports healing from trauma, addiction, homelessness, and mental health challenges. Our loving accountability empowersgrowth and recovery. Although Kathy’s departure will be a loss, the Board sees this leadership transition as an opportunity to build on the momentum that she has created and enhance RCSJ’s capacity to serve our unrelenting community needs. Our Board of Directors has established a transition team to ensure strong organizational leadership, timely communication with the Recovery Café community, and an immediate, disciplined process to hire the most highly qualified candidate to lead the organization. We are launching a search, anticipating our next leader will come from the tremendous talent pool in the greater bay area. We welcome referrals of talented leaders with a passion for our mission from all corners of our community. It takes a "village" to find the best talent and fit, so we are asking you to let us know of individuals you think might be a good fit for our mission and organization. The job announcement will be shared through email requests and will be posted on our website htps://recoverycafesj.org/ . • Thank you Board Chair Carl Cookson and RCSJ Board of Directors. Here is my announcement. I have recently announced my decision to step down as Executive Director of the Recovery Café San  José. I will remain with the Café until the hiring of a new ED, likely this Spring. I am excited  about this decision which will enable me to spend more time with my family, enjoy respite and  self-care and to pursue other interests. I joined the Café on the cusp of the pandemic, stewarding the Café through an ever-shifting  landscape. We have accomplished a great deal- expanding our healing community by providing  resources and relationships that provide stability and healing for those recovering from trauma.  Our membership has grown substantially along with our revenue streams, and our rich array of  community partnerships. I will remember with pride the significant impact I had at the Café and the  enduring relationships I fostered with our many volunteers, members, community partners, staff, and  Board. I am deeply grateful for the mentors, supporters and colleagues that have enabled our  growing membership a supportive path to recovery. I will be working closely with the RCSJ Board of Directors to ensure a smooth and effective  transition to new leadership and will remain an active friend, champion, and supporter of its  mission long after my tenure is complete. Thank you for your support, partnership, and friendship. Kathy Córdova Executive Director Recovery Café San José
