About us
Welcome to the Official LinkedIn page for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). #PeopleFirstMissionAlways Within the Department of the Navy, NCIS is the civilian federal law enforcement agency uniquely responsible for investigating felony crime, preventing terrorism and protecting secrets for the Navy and Marine Corps. Comprised of approximately 2000 personnel, with more than half serving as federal Special Agents, NCIS is unique among U.S. military criminal investigative organizations as it is a civilian-run agency and is headed by a civilian law enforcement professional who reports directly to the Secretary of the Navy. Today, NCIS operates in approximately 191 locations, in more than 41 countries. Given the organization's worldwide forward presence, NCIS is often the first federal law enforcement agency on the scene when U.S. interests overseas are affected. In addition to serving at major naval commands around the world, NCIS Special Agents deploy aboard all Navy aircraft carriers and with amphibious task forces. NCIS agents routinely conduct advances before U.S. Navy ships visit non-Navy ports, working with domestic and foreign counterparts to identify and mitigate security threats. NCIS also conducts protective service operations for senior naval officials and visiting dignitaries. NCIS Professional Staff personnel comprise the remaining half of our workforce and are vital to our success as an agency. They represent the backbone of our organization in mission essential areas like Intelligence, Polygraph, Forensics, Tech, Communications, Cyber, and Human Resources. The NCIS Washington, D.C. Field Office and Director Omar Lopez hosted NCIS' annual law enforcement liaison tailgate event this weekend before the U.S. Naval Academy vs. Tulane football game at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. NCIS has hosted this event for over 25 years to bring together our local, state, federal, and foreign partners to celebrate our longstanding partnerships while cheering on the Midshipmen. Our guests of honor this year included local chiefs of police, assistant U.S. attorneys, as well as our law enforcement colleagues from several foreign partner organizations, all of whom assist NCIS daily in accomplishing our mission across the globe.

Thank you the Honorable Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro for congratulating and welcoming 18 new NCIS special agents following their graduation from the NCIS Special Agent Basic Training Program this past Friday at FLETC. "Let me begin simply by saying to you, Director Lopez, thank you for your leadership. It has been an honor for me as the 78th Secretary of the Navy. These past three and a half years, to serve by your side and to support you in this incredibly important mission at NCIS--it's a responsibility that I can't begin to tell you how seriously I took and how well represented your agency is by Director Lopez. And, as one of my most senior advisors in the Pentagon, as Secretary, I can't tell you the numerous times that he has come in to brief me on, usually extremely challenging situations, threat situations from around the globe, and the long conversations that we've had about how to make things better throughout our Navy and our Marine Corps, and indeed our very nation, to make it the very best that it can be." - Secretary Del Toro
