As the administrative lead for the Railsponsible initiative for the third consecutive year, we have been committed to driving sustainability and transformation within the rail industry. The initiative unites key players across the rail value chain—including Alstom Deutsche Bahn Knorr-Bremse Siemens Mobility ÖBB and many more —to foster collaboration and share best practices for a more circular and resource-efficient future. 🚄🌍 What is Railsponsible? Railsponsible is an industry initiative dedicated to improving sustainability practices throughout the rail value chain. It brings together operators, manufacturers, suppliers, and industry associations to collectively advance the circular economy in rail. Under our administration, we have made significant progress, welcoming new members and continuing the journey towards a sustainable rail sector. Our latest study highlights the tangible benefits of embracing circular economy principles: • Extending the operational life of rolling stock by up to 15 years through predictive maintenance and efficient usage practices, reducing maintenance costs by up to 30%. • Demonstrating that modular design can cut production costs by up to 30%, making it easier to upgrade rolling stock and keep assets at their highest value. • Showing that extending the lifespan of assets in Europe by just five years could save 5-10 million tons of finished products, resulting in substantial economic and environmental gains. ♻️📉 A special thanks to Jeannot Schroeder and +ImpaKT his invaluable contributions to the study, and a big shoutout to my colleagues Rose S., Hannah Spaeth and Roman Bauer for their hard work in running Railsponsible.
