Big Tech earnings show that AI innovation will only continue — and Apple is demonstrating its ability to be a leading contender in AI. Christophe Ponsart spoke with Quartz to explain the expected payoff to show over time provided Meta focuses on the right areas. As Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted “AI is a massive, generational tech shift, akin to the personal computer or the internet. That means the risk is investing too little, not too much.” This is on point and reflective in the Big Tech earnings. Big Tech, with their deep pockets and established digital infrastructure, are early adopters of AI. They see the value and will continue to invest to advance their economic moat. Meta had its Q3 earnings report this week and is increasing its spend forecast. Quartz reached out and published my perspective. Some additional thoughts on the topic. - Tech industry has not had a “winner take most” investment opportunity since “Mobile” - Outside of acquisitions, they started using profits on stock buybacks - Transformer model architecture is still proving that more data and more compute yields more capable models - Also, top AI talent want access to unparralleled compute. If you have capacity and the right vision you’ll have dibs on top talent > All this is driving tremendous spend on GPUs; They are a high demand and supply constrained resource right now and large tech companies like Meta are focused on winning the market With this said, VALUE comes from use cases deployed in production. It takes more than models to deliver use cases - you need software leveraging the models aligned to the use case and change management to ensure adoption Exciting times indeed!
Meta is on an AI spending spree. It's only going to get bigger
