  • I know many of us think of free trade as a sacred value of American business. And the idea of government regulation strikes many as a strong net negative, if not worse. But the guests on my latest Q FACTOR podcast make an overwhelmingly researched argument that free trade isn’t, in fact, free at all. Their names are Marc Fasteau and Ian Fletcher, and they are two of the most authoritative voices in the field of industrial policy. In their new book, INDUSTRIAL POLICY FOR THE UNITED STATES (you can preorder on Amazon now), they argue that a bold, powerful collaboration between the US government and key industries will be critical to US business performance in the 21st century. Thanks for giving it a listen. - Gregg https://lnkd.in/e9CVrUdy

  • I’m excited to share with you the debut of Quent Capital’s new website. Our new brand identity distills into words and images precisely what differentiates us from other investors and advisors. We’ve landed on a metaphor that feels deeply true to who we are, what we do, and why we do it: “squaring the circle.” Squaring the circle stands for our relentless drive to look beyond conventional wisdom, and to set a new standard every day for how we measure, quantify and understand a company’s value. There’s a fascinating story behind the mathematical origin of this phrase, which I’ve written up in a short blog post below. Feel free to take a spin around our new website as well. Onward! Gregg

There may be no more urgent terrain for quantitative thinking to conquer than health care. My guest on the latest edition of the Q FACTOR podcast is the brilliant physician and data scientist, Dan-Avi Landau, who works at the essential nexus of cancer treatment and data science. As you’ll hear in this episode, Dan-Avi is a particularly skilled and generous storyteller: our conversation ranges from cancer’s role in the story of human evolution to the mapping of the human genome.  I’m confident you’ll be as inspired as I was by Dan-Avi Landau. Enjoy the episode!

  • I am thrilled to share the premiere episode of Season Three of my podcast series, THE Q FACTOR. For five years, I’ve been asking every one of our guests the same question: “A.I.: friend or foe?” Today, A.I. has roared into the center of our lives, businesses, and portfolios. Our first episode is a terrific one: it plunges you right into the middle of Governor Kathy Hochul’s massive investment in the Empire A.I. Consortium, a $400M public-private initiative designed to transform Buffalo into a global hub of artificial intelligence research. My guests are two of the project’s architects, Professors Venu Govindaraju and JinJun Xiong of the University at Buffalo (my alma mater). In our conversation, they clearly illuminate the critical difference between how A.I. is being designed in Buffalo, versus the A.I. systems being built in parts of Silicon Valley, and around the world. Enjoy the episode!
