✨ Our last three takeaways from the PRSA Montana Ignite Conference are here. Thank you to our amazing speakers for sharing your expertise with the nearly 90 comms pros in attendance. It was two days we’ll never forget. See you next year! Dr Cheryl Minnick, NCRW, MRW, CCMC, NCOPE, CHJMC/University of Montana: We will never look at emojis 😍, exclamation marks (!!), “very,” “so,” and “ings” the same. Your comms tips will help us all show up with more authority and credibility. Shari Morin-Degel, LPC/Myworkbalance: You taught us that “The solution to burnout is not just wellness.” It’s a partnership between management and employees. You reminded us to “experience awe” when we need a pick-me-up—whether it’s watching an incredible sports star, listening to music, or taking in poetry or art. You said, “It wouldn’t be work if it wasn’t work,” but simple things like being recognized for your value and having autonomy are major levers for managers. Simple tips like inhaling for 2 counts and exhaling for 8 can reduce heart rate. You encouraged us to increase curiosity and challenge our internal narratives by asking, “What is their perspective? and I wonder what they think and feel?” Matthew Lubaroff/Clear Insight Marketing: You taught us the StoryBrand framework and reminded us: “If you confuse you lose.” The brand is not the hero, the customer is; your brand is the guide who helps the hero reach their ultimate goal. Your messaging should communicate, “how are you making the customer’s life better?” Ronnie Martin/Microsoft: Iterate, iterate, iterate and provide as much context as possible—like you’re delegating to a person. When writing a prompt, include your business goals and tell it to pretend it’s a social media expert or master copywriter. Your AI prompting tips and use cases showed us the power of using AI to lift the weight of work and to increase our quality and expertise. Thanks to all the speakers, sponsors, organizers, and attendees for the insights and inspiration. Can’t wait to put these ideas into action!

📣 For those following along, we’ve been sharing the biggest takeaways from the 2024 PRSA Montana Ignite Conference. Here are three more: Richie Melby/ Secretary Of State Montana: You showed us the power of using real human stories as a hook, why strong local media relationships are key, and how to use owned assets like catchy videos and beautiful websites to get the message out in a relatable way. Rebecca Leary/ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Salt Lake City Division: Learning how real special agents stay calm and communicate under pressure is something we’ll never forget. You taught us to quickly identify the experts to get the facts, build strong relationships with our team to foster trust, and hold the line until the right moment to share information. You grounded us in what a “real” crisis is, providing valuable perspective for tackling our day-to-day. Justin Angle/University of Montana: You reminded us that a brand is a promise, and the key is using simple, plain language that simply says, “I’ll be there for you.”

🚀 This week, we kicked off a series of posts highlighting the most epic takeaways from the 2024 PRSA Montana Chapter Ignite Conference. Here are three more: Matthew Kochis & Amanda Mizrahi/Edelman: You taught us what it means to work with creators strategically and how AI is reshaping the industry. You helped us see that creators are small business owners who are using AI to lighten the load. Your stories of how TJ Maxx, Axe, Barilla, and Microsoft work with creators showed us the importance of authentic ties to the brand and getting influencers hands-on with new products. Debi Hammond/Merlot Marketing, Inc.: The backstory behind Netflix’s culture and how it inspired Merlot’s culture was incredibly useful. Building a culture deck and using it in the hiring process to attract the right people is genius. Christi McNeill/ Purple Orange Digital Communications: Your work in the digital space reminded us of the magic of a well-timed creative idea in digital campaigns.

✨The 2024 PRSA Ignite Conference Highlights✨ Last week, we wrapped up an incredible two days with some of the most inspiring comms pros in the Northwest. Thank you to the nearly 90 people who joined us in Helena. This week, we’re sharing some of our most memorable takeaways. Here are our first three: 1. Lindsay Cameron & Jessica D./WE Communications: There’s a difference between “news” and a “story.” If you’re talking to everyone, you’re talking to no one. 2. Abbi Whitaker/ The Abbi Agency: “Creating a purpose-driven company helped me find a purpose-driven life.” Your story left not one dry eye in the house. You inspired us to do something good in our communities, try something new, and have compassion for ourselves as we take on the never-ending challenge of balancing work, relationships, and our health. 3. Catie Kroon/Amazon: You showed us that strong boundaries are career rocket fuel. You encouraged us not to shy away from unconventional job opportunities—they teach us invaluable lessons and open unexpected doors. You also emphasized the importance of finding a mentor and nurturing that relationship.
