Join us on Zoom this Sunday December 22, 2024 PDA Progressive Virtual Town Hall: YPDA and Worker Solidarity 4pm ET / 1pm PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 It’s simple, either progressives win power in America or the future looks bleak. No other political movement can honestly claim to support policies that do what science requires in terms of addressing anthropogenic climate change. And let’s face it, the same is basically true when it comes to building a just economy, let alone a just justice system – and without either of those you’d have to be pretty naïve to believe democracy has much of a future in America. So, suffice to say PDA’s most important project right now is the growth of our youth wing – and, given the drop off in support for Democrats (but not the progressive agenda) among young Americans, this is more urgent than ever. Join YPDA’s national coordinator, Hartzell Gray, this Sunday at 4pm et/1pm pt when he, along with three other members of the YPDA Steering Committee, will unveil PROJECT YPDA 2025: A Popular Front For Young Progressives. We’ll also have an update on two of the most inspiring ongoing organizing drives in the country: Amazon and Starbucks workers.

Progressive Democrats of America works both inside the Democratic Party and outside in movements for peace and justice.
About us
Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites-with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. As a grassroots PAC operating inside the Democratic Party, and outside in movements for peace and justice, PDA played a key role in the stunning electoral victories of November 2006 and 2008. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles. For over two decades, the party declined as its leadership listened more to the voices of corporations than those of Americans. PDA strives to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up-from every congressional district to statewide party structures to the corridors of power in Washington, where we work arm in arm with the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In just a couple of years PDA and its allies have shaken up the political status-quo on issues from ending the Iraq war, voter rights, protecting Social Security, a full employment economy, national healthcare and economic justice. Join us on Zoom this Sunday November 24, 2024 PDA Progressive Town Hall 4pm ET / 1pm PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 Is it possible for California to become the progressive beacon, a rejoinder to MAGA’s reactionary program that Trump will implement? Our first guest will be California’s State Comptroller, Betty Yee, who has announced that she is running for Governor in 2026. Yee is a progressive and she will discuss her vision for the most populous and wealthiest state in the country. Then, we will be joined by one of the country’s leading immigrant rights advocates, Erika Andiola, a longtime friend of PDA. Erika is currently the Communications Director at The Young Center for Immigrant Human Rights; and she will outline the many ways that PDAers and our allies can get directly involved in defending the rights of immigrants in the United States. This is a very important moment for progressives. There’s a leadership void in the Democratic party. We have to seize the moment and re-introduce the progressive agenda to the general public as the program that best serves their interests. At the same time, we have an opportunity to prove our commitment to our principles, by defending those under attack by the Trump regime. It’s time to take action!

Join us on Zoom this Sunday November 17, 2024 PDA Progressive Town Hall 4pm ET / 1pm PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/gNsQfqW4 If anyone had any illusions that Donald Trump wasn’t a threat to our constitutional republic, they evaporated over the past week as he announced the people he has chosen to run the most powerful agencies of the Federal government. Not only are these nominees severely unqualified to lead these departments, their defining feature is not just loyalty to Donald Trump, but to his vision of obliterating the norms and practices of the U.S. government. Let’s be clear about his motivation. This is not being done because these Federal agencies somehow stand in the way of changes that would improve life for the majority of Americans. If that’s the case, surely Trump would have outlined his rationale during the campaign. Rather, Trump is aiming to fulfill a longtime goal of pro-business reactionaries by limiting, or even eliminating, regulations that protect the health and safety of the population and place constraints on powerful corporations and individuals. In this, he is doing the bidding of our oligarchs, common man be damned. He is also signaling his intention to rule with greater unconstrained authority than any President in history, as evidenced by his appointments to oversee the military, intelligence, and justice branches, all of whom have open contempt for the established hierarchies in those departments. Once again, not for any reasons that can be embraced by Progressives, but because these departments are not adequately obedient to Trump and his cadre. With the House and Senate in the hands of a cowardly GOP, and the Supreme Court stacked with a reactionary majority, the situation seems dire: our vaunted system of checks and balances apparently overcome…. But all is not lost. Far from it. Trump may have advanced further than we ever imagined fascism could proceed in this land. The barbarians have breached the gate. As of this week, they’ve shown their hand again, and it’s the same one we saw on January 6, 2021. But, to paraphrase John Paul Jones, we have not yet begun to fight. And, as David Hume observed, ”No form of government had ever been submitted to but what was established on consent.” We, at PDA, do not believe that the American people will consent to their own subordination, the diminution of their sovereignty. We know we must act. But how so? What would the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., do?
