In particular, Chris and Kurt consider: What will become of the SEC? Will there be any changes in tone or priorities at the Commission level? In order to tell truthful, impactful stories that hold the powerful to account, reporters from smaller local media outlets often need pro bono legal support to help access records and advise on risk before a story is published. In this special two-part episode, Flavie Fuentes of Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, Sima Sarrafan and Beth Henderson of Microsoft, Joanna Plichta Boisen and Sarah Burns of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, and Geoffrey King of Open Vallejo share how ProJourn is connecting investigative journalists with lawyers. Last week in Los Angeles, PLI presented the final location of Tax Strategies for Corporate Acquisitions, Dispositions, Spin-Offs, Joint Ventures, Financings, Reorganizations & Restructurings 2024. This marquee Tax program, also held this fall in New York and Chicago, focused on the tax issues presented by the entire spectrum of modern major corporate transactions, with insights from policymakers including Scott Levine, Treasury's Assistant Secretary for International Tax Affairs, and Peter H. Blessing, IRS Associate Chief Counsel (International) as well as 145 of the nation’s leading tax practitioners. Demonstrating their commitment to keeping our attendees current, faculty revised presentations in the days before the L.A. program to include up-to-the-minute discussion of the Proposed Regulations on Previously Taxed Earnings & Profits (PTEP) released by the IRS on November 29. Nearly 2,500 people joined us in person and online for the L.A., Chicago, and New York programs. Thanks to our Co-Chairs, William D. Alexander, Eric Solomon, and Karen Sowell, to PLI's Stacey Greenblatt, for organizing, and to our volunteer faculty, attendees, and staff who worked to make this program a success!
