Being the CEO of a 9-Figure company is really Lonely. Said me, never. Some people create companies to make money, and sure that makes a lot of practical, econonical sense, but I did this for fun and companionship. I started in a garage, but a garage in the hip part of Portland and I put couches and rugs and art in it, then cranked the music and left the garage door open so everyone would stop in and visit. Then I would go to Art Festivals and sit for days talking to amazing people... seems peolpe who like leather journals also like to read and write so they were more interesting. Then we moved into a bigger space and started hiring. Hiring people I liked. Not all the time, and sometimes that fell through, but in my mind as I set through interviews, I thought "will I enjoy seeing them each morning and working with them each day." As the company got better I also got better at choosing. But this one, the one in the picture, well she travels the world and my day with me, and deals with my ups and downs. Here we are in Florence, just after going to our favorite Gellato place. Surround yourself with people who can do the job, yes, but most importanly make sure there are those on the journey make you SO FREAKIN HAPPY that this trek up and down mountains is a joy.
