Pony.ai (NASDAQ: PONY), a global leader in the large-scale commercialization of autonomous mobility and GAC AION, the new energy vehicle arm of GAC, one of China's largest automobile manufacturers, signed a strategic cooperation agreement on December 11th at GAC Group's headquarters in Guangzhou. Pony.ai and GAC AION plan to jointly develop a large-scale, mass produced #robotaxi, advancing Pony.ai's commercialization of its leading autonomous driving technology. Together, the two companies plan to produce over 1,000 robotaxis; the first batch is expected to be completed in 2025. The plan is for the robotaxis to initially be deployed in China's Greater Bay Area region, with expansion to more regions and markets anticipated for the future. Pony.ai is among the first in China to obtain licenses to operate fully driverless vehicles in all four Tier-1 cities in China (Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen) and has begun to offer public-facing, fare-charging robotaxi services without safety drivers in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Pony.ai operates a fleet consisting of over 250 robotaxis. Pony.ai's robotaxis receive over 15 average daily orders per robotaxi, setting a key milestone toward the large-scale commercialization of Level 4 robotaxis.
