Yesterday, we took the difficult but necessary step of implementing a furlough that impacted many of our Pleno people. This talented team of passionate, driven, enthusiastic, collaborative people took on a bold vision to create and build innovative technology and have achieved all significant milestones in a very accelerated timeline – an accomplishment they are very proud of. In this challenging funding environment, it became necessary to scale back our operations while remaining committed to our vision. Our innovative RAPTOR™ instrument platform, with an impressive portfolio of 70+ associated patents covering our biochemistry, instrumentation, software, and reagents is poised for flight.

For #FeatureFriday this week, meet Hector Jimenez. Hector's Q&A is one of our favorites yet as he had so much to share. We love his comment that when the results of his experiments help contribute to key decisions for hardware architecture and/or development, it feels like a piece of him goes into the machine! As a Systems Integration Engineer he loves interacting with all the teams here and helping to bring everything together, saying, "it's a very satisfying experience to see our instrument in action after starting out as an idea on a test bed. Every day is an opportunity to integrate and optimize!" Hector said that he enjoys working at Pleno because it is "full of wonderful people who are willing to help you learn along the way if you put in the effort. He said, "I was more hardware focused in my day-to-day activities in previous roles. But thanks to the culture here, I have been able to expand beyond that and learn more about the chemistry and applications side of things." He added that while he tends to be a more quiet person by nature, the environment here has encouraged him to speak his mind and contribute. Brainstorming sessions at Pleno are a favorite now! Another favorite is Fridays! To quote Hector about the favorite part of his week or day, "I can say "every day". It's easy to come to work when the work environment is vibrant and the work itself is fulfilling. If I must choose though: Fridays! I look forward to every Friday evening as it is not uncommon to hang out for a bit at the end of the workday after a long week and socialize with everyone. We share weekend plans as well as triumphs and tribulations of the work-week. Lastly, Hector shared that he is working hard to become quad-lingual! I speak English, Spanish, Korean, and Toki Pona -- in that order of fluency/proficiency. #plenopeople #team #collaboration #scientists #engineers #innovation

For #FeatureFriday this week, we are happy to introduce David Vigil. Aside from his work on our engineering team, David has also been our photographer - he took the action shot we shared for our recent feature on his colleague Scott Sylliaasen. David shared that his motto or 'words to live by' is "Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." He is in good company at Pleno where we take on great challenges in our quest to create a disruptive technology and we do it with a spirit of collaboration and positivity as David highlights. #plenopeople #engineering #engineers #innovation #collaboration #multiomics
