As someone who's been cold-selling since before I was old enough to rent a car here's a hot tip to strengthen any of your cold outreach. Ditch the word "transform" in your messaging. Every halfway decent sales book will tell you that the goal is to showcase a potential "transformation" to your potential client. Yes, but that does not mean that you literally use the word transform in your email. On it's own the word transform is vague, meaningless, and completely overused. We show (not tell) transformation - through stats, case studies, asking really good questions etc. Over the holiday I got multiple emails asking if they can help transform my business. What does that even mean? You don't know my goals (you don't know me 🤣) You don't know where I'm starting from, what my pain points are, or what "transform" even means to me. You don't even know I hate that word 😆 Meanwhile, you think you're doing the Lord's work, applying solid sales advice - and all you're actually doing is showing your prospective client that you 1. either take things very literally or 2. didn't really research my company. Because trust me, a little bit of personalization and organic research automatically gets rid of vague, I- didn't-actually-read-the-book language - because you actually have specific, important things to say.
