Exciting update for #PostgreSQL users: pganalyze now tracks Buffer Cache Statistics over time. Understanding how your buffer cache changes can be the key to diagnosing query slowdowns and optimizing your database's performance. With our new feature, you can: ☑️ Analyze buffer cache usage for tables and indexes. ☑️ Correlate cache changes with query performance. ☑️ Visualize trends over time to improve workload efficiency. Find all the details in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gqVruEBm

Today, we're excited to announce the new Plan Statistics monitoring feature for pganalyze + Amazon Aurora! With Plan Statistics you can see a breakdown of which query plan #Postgres used for a query at a given time, helping you understand performance regressions caused by plan changes on an aggregate level. You can also use it to reliably get query plan information, even for queries that are fast and would not be captured by other mechanisms like auto_explain. We're initially launching this feature for Amazon Aurora, building on the new aurora_stat_plans functionality (Aurora 15.5, 14.10 and newer), with plans to offer an improved open-source approach for other providers in the near future as well. Learn more about all the details: https://lnkd.in/gjPcsZ_w
Easily optimize your Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL queries with the new Plan Statistics feature in pganalyze. Automatically collect execution plans for all queries using `aurora_stat_plans`, offering deep insights without measurable overhead. Enabled by default in Aurora versions 14.10, 15.5, and higher.

Amazon Aurora users, streamline your query optimization with new Plan Statistics in pganalyze. Query execution plans are critical for diagnosing performance bottlenecks, but collecting all of them has been impractical—until now. Our latest integration uses aurora_stat_plans to automatically collect detailed execution plans for every query without measurable overhead. Dive into the blog for details: https://lnkd.in/gDD2TctD #PostgreSQL #AmazonAurora #DatabasePerformance

If you’ve ever tried to debug a slow PostgreSQL query, then you know how challenging it can be to understand how the Postgres planner works and that it doesn't always choose the most optimal execution plan either. Comparing EXPLAIN plans manually becomes a game of pattern-matching and query trial-and-error. In this webinar, we’ll show you how to use new upcoming features in pganalyze to compare EXPLAIN plans where the analysis is done automatically, so that we can easily uncover common problems causing slow queries like inefficient nested loops, incorrect index usage, & large amounts of data loaded. We will also discuss ways of fixing queries, like rewriting them, changing statistics settings, or forcing a better plan. Register to join us live Wed. Nov. 13 at 10:30a PT or get the recording➡️ https://lnkd.in/gEWvVacB

Today, we return to our Postgres Planner Quirks series to discuss Incremental Sort (first added in Postgres 13, and improved in Postgres 16+), and why its costing logic can sometimes produce bad plans. We also review the newly added "enable_presorted_aggregate" setting in Postgres 16, how it relates to Incremental Sort, and why it may sometimes be necessary to turn it off.
