ANOTHER OWL-SOME EVENT! Last weekend, we hosted our annual Paws for Applause event to show appreciation to our dedicated and amazing volunteers. Without their help each day, it would be difficult to fulfill our mission to the community and animals. This event was lots of fun, with tasty hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and desserts. CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!!! RE-BARK-ABLE!!! Join us in congratulating Deanna Guirola Angeles (Director, Veterinary Services & Animal Care) on 20 years of service at PHS/SPCA! Prior to joining PHS/SPCA, Deanna volunteered with us with the career goal of one day becoming a veterinarian so she could help provide care for pets belonging to homeless pet owners. She then discovered she could fulfill her goal in other areas of animal welfare, so she applied to join our team as a veterinary technician and she has PURR-gressed through out the years into her current role. At PHS/SPCA she loves the hands on work with animals in our care and the people she works with. In her current position, she enjoys guiding and teaching the teams that she manages. It's very rewarding for Deanna to watch her staff evolve and being able to impact their growth and passion in animal welfare, in a positive way. Her fondest memory at PHS/SPCA occurred when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. PHS/SPCA was one of the organizations accepting displaced animals from the hurricane. Being part of the effort to help the animals and owners by setting up kennels and caring for those animals is something she'll always remember. Outside of work, Deanna enjoys hot yoga (her "me" time), trying new coffee spots with her husband and exploring the area with her dog Otter in tow. FUN FACT - Deanna has watched Harry Potter, Hobbit and Lord of the Rings over 20 times like it's her first time watching. Safe to say those are her favorite movies. HUGE thanks Deanna for your leadership, tenacity and dedication to PHS/SPCA! We look forward to many more years together!
