While a lot of eyes were on the US election yesterday, at Pathways we were also looking to the European Council. The Council yesterday adopted the construction products regulation (CPR), which harmonises the EU rules for marketing of construction products. This means that 430,000 construction product companies in the EU will most likely be expected to create Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for their products. If you're one of those companies, reach out. 🗽 New York: Starting January 1, 2025, all concrete mixes must have EPDs to be used on state construction projects.  Reach out if you're working in New York City and need help to get your EPDs in order.

I'm really impressed by the work by EPD-Norway - despite the name, a Global Program Operator 😉 One of the biggest challenges for new and innovative materials is the ability to show to customers that their environmental claims are comparable to existing materials. Think: An established steel manufacturer who has 4 months data showing 20% decrease in emission today has to wait 1.5 years before they can market it. Innovative start-up who've proved pilot or early commercial value but do not have 12 months of data are struggling to get contracts because they can't get an EPD. It feels like I've been having a lot of these conversations lately. OMG!!! Massive news that might slip under the radar because Command Alkon isn't a household name. Back at Viewpoint, we partnered with Command to get batch plant information for our customers in our ERP application. Command Alkon tracks what goes into the concrete batch, how much was put into the truck, and where that truck goes. With the combination of Pathways and Command Alkon, we will have an AI-powered EPD generator to go along with the actual quantities and location for most of the concrete poured in the US. #holygrail If I were a Series A firm looking at AI and climate, I would be hunted down where in the world Leise Sandeman is right now. Building Transparency's database is about ready to explode.
