🌍 🚲 𝗔 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮! 🚴♀️🌍 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗛 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵: 𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 At #COP29, PATH played a pivotal role in promoting 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 as key solutions to the climate, health, and equity challenges. 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 is now firmly embedded in the transport decarbonisation agenda. 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 are included in the COP breakthrough target for the very first time, shifting the focus away from solely electrifying vehicles to a broader approach. Bicycles are more than just a mode of transportation—they are lifelines that drive sustainable development and transform lives. 🚲 We are excited to present groundbreaking new research by PATH partner World Bicycle Relief in collaboration with IDinsight, exploring how bicycles can empower communities and boost economic growth! 🤝 🌍 Through a randomised controlled trial carried out in Mumbwa District, Zambia, they found out that on average, owning a bicycle led to: 💰 A 43% higher monthly income 👩⚕️ A 63% increase in clients served by community health workers 🍲 A 24% higher consumption of food and non-food household items 💵 A 53% higher business revenue 🚲 A 22% reduction in travel times, meaning more time for income-generating activities or household tasks 🥦 A 12% higher household dietary diversity score Click here for more insights and to access the full report: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gaXS7ijw

On World Sustainable #TransportDay, we celebrate the breakthrough for walking and cycling at this year's #COP29 climate conference! 🚶♀️🚴♀️💥 Following the pro-cycling campaign led by the ECF and supported by 350 organisations, which secured the recognition of active travel in the COP26 transport declaration, we continued our advocacy efforts. 🌍 “Our common goal, as set out in the Paris Agreement, is a future-proof, zero-emission transport system that accounts for future generations. To achieve this, it is essential to focus on active mobility—cycling and walking.” 🚴♀️🚶♂️ These were the inspiring words of Afke van Rijn, Vice-Minister for the Environment and International Affairs, during her keynote at COP29 at the event “Accelerating Change: Unlocking Global Funding for Walking and Cycling Infrastructure.” Following her speech, and in recognition of 🇳🇱 leadership in promoting walking and cycling, Jill Warren, CEO of European Cyclists' Federation, presented her with: ✅ The PATH Active Travel NDC template for integrating walking and cycling into national NDCs ✅ The coalition's open letter, urging governments to include active travel in their NDCs. Jill Warren, CEO of the European Cyclists' Federation, represented PATH at the High-Level Ministerial Roundtable on Greening Urban Transport this morning. 🌱 She highlighted the potential of active mobility in accelerating progress toward urgent climate goals and fulfilling the Paris Agreement.
