Does this sound like anyone you know? Your teen shuts down, your partner gets defensive, and your team avoids tough conversations. The problem isn’t what you’re saying—it’s how safe they feel to respond. The Problem: When people don’t feel emotionally safe, they stop engaging. At home, this looks like a distant teen or a spouse who avoids deeper conversations. At work, it looks like a disengaged team or employees who don’t offer solutions. The good news? Emotional safety isn’t a mystery—you can create it with intentional actions. The Solution: Here’s a simple framework from the “Create a Safe Place” Foundation of CONNECTION Coaching that you can start using today: Pause Before Reacting: Whether your teen says something triggering or an employee shares critical feedback, pause. Take a breath before you respond to ensure your tone and words reflect openness, not judgment. Acknowledge Their Feelings: Use reflective statements like “I can see why you’d feel that way” or “That sounds really frustrating.” This helps the other person feel understood and validated. Ask Open-Ended Questions: Shift from giving advice or criticism to asking questions like, “Can you tell me more about what’s going on?” or “How do you see this situation?” This invites them to share instead of shutting down. Or, simply, "Tell me more." Avoid Fixing Right Away: Resist the urge to jump in with solutions, even if you think you know what’s best. Let them finish expressing themselves before offering guidance or next steps. Then ask, 'Are you looking for an ear or a solution?' Why This Works: These steps signal to others that they are seen, heard, and valued—key ingredients for emotional safety. When people feel safe, they’re more likely to open up, share ideas, and engage meaningfully. Try It Today: Pick one relationship where communication feels strained. Use this framework during your next conversation and notice the shift. It’s often the smallest adjustments that lead to the biggest breakthroughs. I'd love to know which one you try and how it pans out! If you want to go deeper in creating safety and building connection, let’s talk. Our CONNECTION Coaching Program equips you with tools like this to transform your relationships—both at home and at work. #Leadership #ParentingTips #EmotionalSafety #ConnectionMatters #CoachingForGrowth

Connecting parents to each other and to experts & education to help navigate life with teens!
About us
The ParenTween Connection launched in January 2018 to connect and support parents of all varieties: birth, adoptive, foster, grand, step, honorary, and more. They say kids don't come with handbooks, and while there are abundant resources for parents of babies and small children, there is a noticeable lack of support for parents of teens and tweens. As a result, when their kids start getting into tough situations (like drinking, drugs, sex, and more), parents often feel as though they're at a loss about where to turn for support - not only for their kids, but for themselves, too. ParenTween Connection aims to help fill that gap. Our primary goal is to create a community for parents via our closed Facebook group, wherein we have some fantastic conversations about all kinds of things that relate to teens. How do I support my high school junior who just doesn't care about school? How do I manage a sleep-over situation where the plan is to show a movie that I'm not comfortable with my child seeing? How do I support the child who has just come out to me? Our secondary goal is to connect parents to experts who can help answer those questions. Our in-person and online workshops give parents easy access to professionals who've been there and done that. From eating disorder specialists to test prep coaches, our experts cover a wide variety of topics. Our Preferred Providers have been thoroughly vetted to ensure that we bring the best of the best to our community - when a parent reaches out to one of our Preferred Providers, she can trust that she'll get the support she expects, and more!

Let's Talk CONNECTION. Today in the US (and beyond, even), many of us feel more disconnected than ever before. We can't change what other people believe by blocking them, unfriending them, or otherwise creating more of an echo chamber. But we CAN control how we choose to show up. We CAN choose to generate CONNECTION. We've said kinda jokingly at times that world peace starts at home, but really? That's not a joke. The more CONNECTION we can create in our homes, in our workplaces, in our communities, the more we can work toward world peace. We're hosting a series of workshops based on the Foundations of CONNECTION: Create a Safe Place Observe Nonjudgment Nod (& Smile!) Explore Challenge Your Truths Take Your Time Innovate Own Your Own Story Nurture We'd love for you to join us for any or all of them. They're a precursor to a group coaching program that will launch in January that is ideal for parentpreneurs - parents of teens & tweens who are also entrepreneurs, or are in roles at work where they're in management or responsible for generating revenue. We can only control ourselves and how we show up. Will you join me to share ideas about how we can create more CONNECTION together? Here's the link for all the upcoming dates: https://lnkd.in/ebe_MreF
