Creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.

About us

Ørsted is the global leader in offshore wind power and is one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world. Within a decade, we transformed from being one of Europe’s most fossil fuel-intensive utilities to being ranked as one of the most sustainable energy companies in the world. Today, we’re guided by a clear vision: to create a world that runs entirely on green energy. We provide countries, companies, and communities with sustainable, reliable, and cost-competitive energy solutions, including offshore and onshore wind, solar, renewable hydrogen, and energy storage. We built the world’s first offshore wind farm back in 1991, and with over 2,000 turbines at sea, we’ve installed more offshore wind capacity than anyone else. In total, we own or operate over 17 GW of renewable energy capacity across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and by 2030 we aim to grow this to 35-38 GW. We know that to build renewable energy at pace and scale, we must build it right. We commit to developing and operating our assets in harmony with nature and in line with the need for science-based climate action. We prioritise integrity and safety in our operations, and we respect the human rights and diverse values of every employee and stakeholder. As a global renewable energy leader, we leverage the curiosity and passion of our people to innovate and take new or existing technologies to scale, collaborating with governments, suppliers, and our industry partners to make green energy solutions a reality.

Raising the bar for offshore safety with more than 10,000 safe transfers using a new technology!    In offshore wind operations, safety is everything. Transferring technicians from a crew transfer vessel (CTV) to a wind turbine can be physically demanding and risky. Through use of innovative technology such as ‘Get Up Safe’ (GUS), it has been possible to transfer technicians fast and safely.    We’ve cooperated with Pict Offshore to implement the GUS system at Hornsea 2 Offshore Wind Farm. The GUS system seamlessly hoists and lowers technicians, eliminating the boat landing ladder and the need to step from the vessel to the ladder, which can be very challenging in rough weather.    Now, with 10,000 transfers completed, we’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries to use new technologies in offshore wind to create more efficiency and safety!    Watch the full video to see the GUS system in action 🎥⬇️

First suction bucket jacket foundations in the Asia-Pacific region have arrived at Taichung Port 🎉🚢  A big milestone for the 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms! The first batch of suction bucket jacket foundations (SBJs) from Korea has arrived at the Port of Taichung. Standing about 80 meters tall and weighing up to 2,300 tonnes per jacket, these SBJs consist of steel cylinder structures pre-attached to jacket braces, allowing faster pile-free installation with minimal noise, making it one of the most eco-friendly foundation technologies. Currently, 44 of the planned 66 SBJs have been fully assembled. More foundations and wind turbine components will arrive at Taichung soon, to prepare for offshore construction early next year.    Stay tuned for updates on the latest progress for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms!

Our message at #COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan: The rapid transition to independent, renewable sources of energy is critical to energy security. Why?     86 % of the global population live in countries that are net importers of fossil fuels, making them vulnerable to supply disruptions and price instability.     Fortunately, 99.8 % live in countries with access to independent renewable energy sources.     Renewable energy benefits local and national economies by creating well-paid, accessible, long-lasting jobs, expanding supply chains, improving infrastructure, and creating long-term growth. And, if built right, it can boost biodiversity by protecting and restoring habitats on land and in the oceans.     How do we get there?     Together with governments and civil society, we need to:     🟢 facilitate the supply of renewables   🟢 drive demand, faster   🟢 expand grid infrastructure.    Let’s create a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Top 100 climate leaders. Congratulations to our CEO, Mads Nipper, who has been selected for the 2024 TIME100 Climate list, recognising the 100 most influential leaders in climate action. Throughout 2024, Ørsted has made good progress towards contributing to a greener and more sustainable world, including: ✅ closing down our last coal-fired heat and power plant which means that we’re on track to reach a share of 99 % RE in our energy production by 2025 ✅ constructing more renewable energy than ever before, across three continents. 🌍 Youth voices for a just green transition!    Over the last year, we’ve invited eight young changemakers to share their perspectives on how we can contribute to a renewable energy transition that’s just and puts people and nature at the very centre. After a year of discussions, learnings, and sharing inspiration and concerns, the youth panel met up with our CEO, Mads Nipper, to shape concrete recommendations for actions that will help guide us on the path forward.    “We can't simply replace fossil fuels; in learning from past mistakes, we must transform our energy systems to be equitable and inclusive. This is at the heart of a just transition,” say Simra and Hsiang-Yu, two of the panelists.    The youth panel will publish their insights and recommendations early next year, so stay tuned as we work with the next generation to turn these recommendations into impactful actions. Thank you to all the participants for their contributions!

That's a wrap for #COP16. Now let's get to work!   Two great weeks in Cali, Colombia, at UN’s biodiversity conference with nature at centre stage have come to an end, and we're grateful for the chance to make our voices heard on the need for both renewable energy solutions and thriving ecosystems to address the climate and biodiversity crises.    Since COP15, we’ve been working hard to turn our biodiversity ambition into action, so we're thrilled to learn that our #NatureStrategy was published in Business for Nature's approved list of #NowForNature strategies.    Hear more about our time at COP16 from Benj Sykes, our UK Country Manager and Head of Environment & Permitting, Europe, and read more about our nature strategy here: https://lnkd.in/dnVymxmH.   Vamanos!
