I don't know about you, but I love having some downtime to read and learn on weekends. While you are already familiar with Pressing RESET and have tried out at least a few resets, it's always good to review the basics and share a few highlights on why we do what we do. I hope you can better explain WHY you have your client or family member while sitting around the Thanksgiving table pressing reset and what they can get out of it. Last week, we discussed rolling, so this week, let’s talk about rocking—a movement you might overlook or feel funny when doing it, but that is often a favorite and yields some solid performance and mobility improvements. When we think about getting stronger, we often focus on lifting heavier, stretching farther, or moving faster. But as we've discussed before, the foundation for that is much simpler. All of the resets we teach are grounded in the steps of human development—in this case, think about how babies rock as they prepare to crawl. It’s not just a stepping stone; it’s a vital building block for them to learn how to connect their body and move limbs simultaneously. Even as adults, rocking has tons of benefits, including: Improving Mobility and Joint Health. Rocking gently can move your hips, knees, feet, ankles, wrists, and shoulders through their full range of motion. It’s perfect for warming up before workouts or easing stiffness after a long day. Building Reflexive Strength & Stability. It strengthens your stabilizers, improves posture, and teaches your body to move as a unified system—a game-changer for everything from lifting weights to everyday movements. Calming the Nervous System. Rocking activates your parasympathetic system (your rest-and-digest mode), making it an excellent recovery and stress management tool. The best part? Rocking is approachable for anyone, no matter your fitness level or experience. It works as a warm-up, an active rest between exercises, a way to cool down after a tough session, or even something you do throughout your day at home. You can do it on the floor, from a chair, or standing position. Here’s how you (and your clients) can add more rocking to your routine: Use it as part of your daily resets to stay loose and mobile. Pair it with heavier lifts to fine-tune your movement between sets. Wind down with it at the end of the day to reset your body and mind. Challenge yourself by adding load to rocking by lifting your knees off the floor. If you’re a coach, rocking is an incredible tool to teach your clients how to move better, recover smarter, and build lasting strength. It’s the perfect reminder that progress starts with a strong foundation.
