Reflecting on a year of leadership conversations. We’ve been fortunate to host leaders in their fields on our Orellium Future Strategy podcast over the past year—each bringing unique insights into the challenges and opportunities facing professional services. Looking back, a common theme emerged: the importance of the human. Whether it’s curiosity, authenticity, or human connection with clients, this thread runs through every conversation. In one of our first leadership conversations, Louanne M Buckley GCB.D - CMO ⁞ Growth ⁞ Digital captured this perfectly: “We spend more time looking at what competitors are doing rather than understanding what our clients actually want, need, and value.” Her words were a powerful reminder that client-centricity isn’t about assuming you know what your clients want—it’s about listening, asking the right questions, and understanding their world beyond the immediate transaction: “What you're not taking the time to do is understand their board mandate, the challenges they face, and how you can help them achieve their goals.” This focus on authentic client relationships, informed by insights and strengthened by human connection, is where real value is created. “AI augments the human—it doesn’t replace the human. The more insights and client knowledge you bring to the table, the more meaningful and authentic the conversation becomes.” Over the next two weeks, we'll share highlights from other episodes—exploring key themes, insights, and lessons from the remarkable leaders we’ve had the privilege to speak with. If you have not yet had the chance, have a listen to our conversation with Louanne wherever you listen to your podcasts, or access the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/eH8_pEqT

Reflecting on a year of leadership conversations on the Orellium Future Strategy Podcast #2 One of the most inspiring themes to emerge from our conversation with Scott Atkins of Norton Rose Fulbright is the importance of curiosity in leadership, and client-centricity in professional services. Scott’s leadership ethos is rooted in a simple yet profound principle: “My job is to help someone do their job.” This servant leadership mindset underpins his approach to building deep, authentic client relationships, helping businesses achieve strategic outcomes that align with broader economic growth, and support those in his team. Scott’s curiosity has also driven him to continually explore emerging opportunities, such as space law. As he put it: “Curiosity is the ingredient that helps us innovate and build better solutions for clients.” In leading global teams and initiatives like INSOL International’s governance reform, Scott has demonstrated how resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to community can foster exceptional outcomes: “People don’t just want to be members of a group; they want to feel part of a community.” Additionally, Scott challenges us to think differently about the value of professional services. His reframing of restructuring and insolvency work as a driver of economic maximisation is a compelling reminder that true leadership is about being prepared to re-think the traditional and adopt an agile mindset. What’s your perspective on fostering curiosity, client-centricity, and connection in your work? Leadership, Innovation, and Staying Curious In the upcoming episode of the Orellium Future Strategy Podcast, Jonathan Otty and I had the pleasure of speaking with Anne Lapierre, Managing Partner at Bracewell LLP's Paris office, and a true global leader in the global energy sector. Anne’s insights are fascinating. She led her entire team in establishing Bracewell’s Paris office, a move that highlights her clear vision and strong leadership in one of the most competitive environments. Her work on first-of-their-kind, first-in-country energy deals, particularly in developing economies, reflects her commitment to finding practical, sustainable solutions to complex challenges, while always keeping her client's best interests front of mind - even when this may mean saying "no" to a client's ideas. Anne's insights on the intersection of AI with energy supply and sustainability are both thought-provoking and timely. In a field often marked by one-sided debates, her balanced and considered approach offers valuable perspective on a topic that’s on many minds. One of the highlights of our conversation was to hear about a one of a kind transaction in Gabon, a project that delivered energy sovereignty to Gabon without using any public funds - something that is almost unheard of. This achievement was recognised at the highest level when Anne was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite by the President of Gabon. So, now we can honestly say that we have had a Knight on the show! Throughout our conversation, Anne was open and thoughtful, sharing insights not only about the energy sector’s future but also about what it takes to lead effectively. Her advice to stay curious, keep learning, and always think beyond the immediate will no doubt resonate with our listeners. This episode is a chance to hear from someone who combines technical expertise with a genuine commitment to improving the markets and communities she works in - moving beyond being a lawyer, to become what defines being a trusted advisor, with all that entails We look forward to sharing this conversation with you on Monday 9 December. And our thanks to Zeina Khalifé, Business Development Manager extraordinaire, who was instrumental in getting this episode into play! #Leadership #EnergySector #Sustainability #AI #FutureStrategy #Bracewell #Podcast

What will your most ambitious competitor (in whatever form) look like in three years? This is one of the questions we ask our clients when helping to define their future success. Others include: What do your clients expect today—and what will they expect in three years? What part of your current offering would be hardest for a tech-enabled competitor or new entrant to replicate? For professional service partners and leaders, these are often uncomfortable questions. But answering them honestly is critical if continued success is important. An article in the forthcoming Harvard Business Review Magazine tackles similar questions in the context of AI, which is reshaping the cost and availability of expertise. The authors highlight two key forces that challenge businesses: The expanding body of expertise makes it harder to stay at the cutting edge. The falling cost of accessing expertise lowers barriers for new entrants, intensifying competition. These forces should resonate loudly with professional services and knowledge-based businesses. Consider these pointed questions posed by the article’s authors: 1. Which problems that we solve today will clients use AI to solve themselves? 2. Which areas of our expertise need to evolve to stay ahead of AI? 3. What assets can we build or enhance to remain competitive? These questions, like the ones we ask, are designed to provoke serious reflection, and some discomfort. Avoiding them risks obsolescence. Honest answers, however uncomfortable, are the foundation of future and long-term success—for your team, your clients, and your business. As the article reminds us: "The expertise and assets that proved valuable in the past will need to be reexamined as AI improves. Over time, the organizations that fully exploit AI to rapidly adapt their operations and strategy are the ones that will thrive." At Orellium Advisory Services, we advocate a holistic approach to AI, generative AI, broader technology, and organisational design. Implementing an LLM or point solution without an integrated AI platform, a focused plan, and a future-ready organisation is to suggest these critical questions do not warrant serious consideration and answer. If this is what your leaders, your advisors or your vendors are suggesting, then we recommend you ask them the hard question! • We have said it before and we will say it again - just as those who are driving the development of the technology are doing, business leaders need to be thinking 2-3 years into the future and then carefully assessing what needs to be done today. This is what we do - think about the most likely future scenarios and help our clients act today to become even more successful tomorrow. #leadership #success

At Orellium Advisory Services, we have long been proponents of a structured approach to AI and Gen AI - one that includes an integrated AI Platform working with appropriate LLMs and other technologies. We believe that getting the foundation right is critical. Done right an AIP allows your business to scale, flex and respond fast to any changes or new innovations. Despite what we hear from OpenAI (2025!), it is still not clear when we will see any form of meaningful Artificial General Intelligence. But we make an educated bet that we will see it in some form at some not too distant point in time. AGI is likely to transform business and society in ways we’re only beginning to imagine. The key question then becomes - will your business be ready to thrive in this new era? A well-integrated AI Platform is your best bet for future-proofing against the disruption AGI will bring: ✅ Seamless Integration: AIPs unify data, workflows, and systems, making it easy to adopt AGI without costly overhauls. ✅ Accelerated Innovation: They enable rapid application of AGI’s capabilities to create new products, services, and efficiencies. ✅ Enhanced Decision-Making: By combining AGI with existing tools, AIPs empower smarter, faster decisions. ✅ Scalability and Adaptability: With robust governance and infrastructure, AIPs evolve with technology, avoiding obsolescence. In contrast, businesses that are focusing solely on LLMs may face serious challenges in transitioning to an AGI-driven world: ❌ Narrow Focus: LLMs are great for specific tasks but lack the breadth and versatility AGI demands. ❌ Siloed Systems: Bespoke LLMs often operate in isolation, limiting their ability to adapt to AGI's interconnected nature. ❌ Inflexibility: Relying solely on LLMs locks businesses into rigid systems, making rapid shifts to AGI costly and disruptive. ❌ Missed Opportunities: Without a comprehensive platform, businesses risk falling behind more agile, AIP-ready competitors. The bottom line? Investing in a holistic AI long-term plan and building a future-ready AI Platform isn’t just a smart move—it’s essential for thriving today, and in a possible AGI era. Businesses that prioritise flexibility, scalability, and integration today will lead tomorrow. #AIP #AGI #FutureToday #leadership

  • Our 6th Edition, of the ongoing Leadership Publication series, examines the fundamental tension between accelerating technological change and human adaptive capacity in the legal sector. Through analysis of the 'Human Processing Gap' and 'Temporal Disconnect', we reveal how firms' simultaneous push for AI advancement and adherence to traditional metrics creates systemic contradictions. In it, we advocate for a reimagined legal practice that acknowledges both technological inevitability and human limitations, proposing concrete strategies for sustainable transformation. Rather than treating AI integration and human factors as separate challenges, we argue they are inextricably linked, requiring leaders to fundamentally rethink how legal services are delivered, measured, and valued.
