We are delighted to share that Vidatum has been recently recertified under the new criteria for Research Information Systems. 🎉 This integration streamlines the process of managing researcher profiles, who can now synchronize their academic contributions seamlessly, ensuring a unified and accurate representation of their work.
About us
ORCID’s mission is to enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and their affiliations by providing a unique, persistent identifier for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. We do this by providing three important things: 1. The ORCID iD: a unique, persistent identifier free of charge to researchers 2. An ORCID record connected to the ORCID iD, and 3. A set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), as well as the services and support of communities of practice that enable interoperability between an ORCID record and member organizations so researchers can choose to allow connection of their iD with their affiliations and contributions ORCID is a global, not-for-profit organization sustained by fees from our member organizations. We are community-built and governed by a Board of Directors representative of our membership with wide stakeholder representation. ORCID is supported by a dedicated and knowledgeable professional staff.

it's great to see Amy P. A. Asimah (PhD) and Regional Maritime University building awareness of ORCID among researchers in Ghana!
A workshop on the Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID) Adoption for the Discoverability of Research Outputs in Academic Institutions was held at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. The event, organized by the Regional Maritime University (RMU), attracted an audience of librarians, researchers, lecturers, and students. Dr. Amy P.A. Asimah, RMU’s Librarian, facilitated the session, which aimed to promote the ORCID platform and enhance the visibility of academic research in Ghana. The workshop was part of a broader initiative following RMU's receipt of the ORCID Global Participation Fund (GTP) in May 2024, supporting the “ORCID Adoption in Academic Institutions in Ghana” project. Since May, RMU has conducted training sessions across various regions in Ghana, including Accra, the Volta and Oti regions, and at the University of Media Arts and Communication. Dr. Asimah highlighted the benefits of ORCID for researchers and institutions, emphasizing its role in improving research discoverability, streamlining academic workflows, and fostering transparency and accountability. The Pro Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Victor Antwi, also spoke at the workshop, describing ORCID as a “game-changer” that ensures academic contributions are recognized globally. He stressed the importance of adopting tools like ORCID to showcase Ghana’s academic talent. Ms. Agatha Gifty Larson, Acting University Librarian at UEW, echoed these sentiments, noting the potential of ORCID to enhance academic profiles and contribute to the broader academic community. Participants praised the workshop for its informative content, with several expressing their intention to adopt ORCID in their academic work. Dr. Asimah concluded the session by encouraging further adoption and pledging to continue organizing webinars and training sessions across the country.

Happy Feature Friday! 🎉 In our previous update, we added a prompt to users to make their verified professional email domains publicly available. We've now updated the prompt so that it is also shown to users that sign in directly to their ORCID record and when they are signing into other systems using their ORCID account credentials. Only users who have a professional verified email address that does not have an email domain already available on their public record will see the prompt once. We recently assessed ORCID against the Principles for Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI). Though we are not yet ready to unequivocally adopt the POSI Principles, we acknowledge the importance of the initiative and we're eager to engage with the group of current POSI adopters and the broader scholarly infrastructure community to further evolve POSI in an open, transparent way.
