It's stories like these that inspire us to stay driven and continue making a meaningful impact every single day. 👇 Our Africa Project Managers Samuel Appiah Ofori and Philbert Raj HABIYAKARE have recently visited two @TerraFund for AFR100 projects in Zambia - and during this one-week journey - they witnessed firsthand the transformative power of restoration. “One of the highlights of our visit was seeing high school students deeply engaged in conservation. The school we visited had an active conservation club, and the students demonstrated remarkable knowledge and commitment to restoration practices. I told them how envious I was of them since I did not get such exposure to be involved in nature conservation when I was their age.” - Samuel Zambia, with its vast land area of 752,612 sq. km and a population of around 20 million, boasts one of the lowest population densities in Africa. Despite its abundance of natural resources, deforestation driven by charcoal production and agriculture has long posed a challenge. Yet, the country is fighting back through impactful restoration projects like these funded by TerraFund. At the Katanino Forest Landscape Project, they saw how communities within a 5km buffer zone around the reserve are restoring degraded farmlands through agroforestry. They shared that it was inspiring to meet women leading the charge as community restoration champions, proving that restoration is not just about landscapes but also empowering communities. It was even more rewarding to see how these efforts are bringing biodiversity back to the Katanino Forest Reserve. After Zambia had endured a year of drought that slowed reforestation efforts, it was heartwarming to see rains returning during our visit. Community nurseries were sparkling with thousands of healthy seedlings, ready to be planted and transform degraded lands into thriving ecosystems. "This visit was a powerful reminder that, despite challenges, communities can lead the way in landscape restoration.” - Samuel A mentality that can not be forgotten.

5 things you didn't know about Christmas trees🎄 As the holidays approach, many wonder: are real Christmas trees better for the environment than fake ones? 🤔 Let’s break down some surprising facts 👇 1. Fake trees require 10 years of use to have the same carbon impact as real trees used for just one season. 2. The carbon footprint of artificial trees is over 10x higher than sustainably grown, properly recycled real trees — up to 88 lbs of CO2. 3. Most artificial trees are made with plastic and metal — resources that take a lot to create and take thousands of years to break down. 4. Fake trees contribute to ocean pollution when their plastic components end up in landfills, harming marine life. 5. Real trees improve indoor air quality by removing dust and pollen, making your home healthier during the winter months. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eFmHYqfx

Monarch butterflies are in crisis. 🦋 In 2022, the International Union for Conservation of Nature listed the migratory monarch butterfly, native to North America, as endangered due to habitat loss and climate change. Between 2021 and 2022 alone, their presence in Mexico’s forest wintering grounds dropped by 22%, according to the World Wildlife Fund. The good news? Trees can help. 🌳 We’re proud to plant Abies religiosa (oyamel) trees—an essential part of the monarch butterflies’ traditional nesting grounds. These incredible trees, which can live for up to 300 years, are under threat from overharvesting and climate change. By replanting and restoring their habitat, we’re working to protect both these majestic trees and the monarchs who rely on them. Every tree we plant helps ensure monarchs—and their incredible migration—have a future. https://lnkd.in/e7FFPduB.

Every tree we plant has a story, a purpose, and a powerful ripple effect that extends far beyond its roots. 🌳 Through our reforestation projects around the world, we’re not just planting trees—we’re nurturing ecosystems, restoring biodiversity, and creating lasting change for communities in need. These trees are integral to rebuilding fragile ecosystems that support wildlife and protect natural resources. By providing habitats for countless species, we are helping restore balance to our planet’s ecosystems. 🌍 Our work goes beyond environmental impact—it’s about empowering communities. Through sustainable reforestation practices, we create livelihoods, foster economic resilience, and encourage local stewardship of the land. We are giving people the tools to thrive while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. These trees symbolize more than growth—they are a testament to hope, resilience, and the belief that every action can make a difference

The sad truth: 80% of global deforestation happens to clear land for crops and livestock. This alarming rate of forest loss is a major driver of climate change, biodiversity loss, and disruption of ecosystems. But there's hope! 💚 At One Tree Planted, we're committed to reversing this trend by supporting reforestation projects that not only restore vital habitats but also promote sustainable land-use practices. Through our work, we’re helping to create more resilient ecosystems while empowering communities to adopt practices that protect the planet. 🌍

Just 12%. That’s all that remains of the Atlantic Forest, one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. Stretching across eastern Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, it’s home to remarkable species—jaguars, toucans, sloths, and tamarins—and supports 70% of Brazil’s population. But over the years, 88% of this natural wonder has been lost to agriculture, infrastructure, and development, leaving behind fragmented patches of forest struggling to survive. In the Serra do Brigadeiro region, we’re working to change that. By reconnecting these fragments with native trees, we’re creating safe havens for endangered species like the woolly spider monkey. Our efforts go beyond conservation; we're revitalizing lands once used for coffee farming by replacing exotic species with native trees. This work restores vital springs, strengthens water flow, and enhances biodiversity, benefiting both ecosystems and local communities. But we’re not stopping there! Together with local communities, we’re building the Atlantic Forest's largest ecological corridor—linking key biodiversity areas and ensuring the survival of endangered species like the jaguar and black lion tamarin. This work is more than just reforestation; it’s about restoring balance, protecting species, and enhancing the resilience of one of the most important ecosystems on Earth. 🌍 Make reforestation your way of giving back this holiday season and create a lasting impact. https://lnkd.in/gWYgziRG

We couldn’t be prouder to see CNN shining a spotlight on the incredible work of our partners, Acción Andina! 👏 Since 2018, Acción Andina—a collaboration between US-based Global Forest Generation and Peru’s Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos—has been working tirelessly to restore native Andean forests and support the communities that depend on them. What started in Peru has now expanded across six countries, with a bold goal: to protect and restore 1 million hectares of native forest by 2045. One of their most inspiring traditions is the annual Queuña Raymi festival near Cusco. Picture this: vibrant traditional clothing, ancestral music, and generations of people coming together to honor Pachamama (Mother Earth) and plant up to 100,000 native trees in a single day. The process doesn’t stop there—communities care for the saplings, protect them from fire, and ensure their long-term survival. 🌱 We’re honored to be a part of this journey. Between 2019 and 2024, One Tree Planted has supported 3,906,330 of the 10 million trees referenced in the article. Together, we’re helping bring this ambitious vision to life! 👏 Learn more about their impactful work https://lnkd.in/e2r2TpRF

Planting trees isn't just about reforesting the planet—it's about transforming communities. From providing sustainable income to improving health and education, trees have the power to uplift people and create lasting change. In Rwanda, the Kula Project is empowering coffee farmers by providing them with coffee seedlings that will grow into thriving trees. These trees will not only yield sustainable income for farmers for up to 30 years but will also enable them to afford healthcare and education for their families. 🌍✨ By planting coffee under shade trees, farmers are helping to protect the environment, mitigate climate change, and restore the soil. With agronomy training and community-driven nurseries, the project is cultivating both strong businesses and stronger, healthier communities. This is more than just coffee; it's about creating opportunities, supporting families, and building a future where everyone thrives. When you gift a tree, you're investing in a community's growth, well-being, and resilience. Gift a tree this holiday season to create impactful stories like these. 💚 https://lnkd.in/ere6iBat
