Thank you to Chris Bauer and MassChallenge for organizing this great event. Special thanks as well to Cayman Somerville and Derek Stein for joining me as panelists - as expected, we only scratched the surface of incredible things that Sublime Systems and Adept Materials are doing. Some of my highlights from the discussion included:
- Both companies have gone above and beyond to reduce frictions at the end point of use. Adept’s moisture control materials are taking shape in the form of paints, primers, films, ensuring ease of application in both new builds and retrofits. Sublime has re-invented the cement production process, but the process ultimately results in a drop-in replacement for ready-mix concrete.
- Both companies have kept voice of the customer firmly in the conversation throughout the tech development process. The ease of use of both products can be partially attributed to continuous efforts to engage the construction companies and installers that will need to eventually apply the products.
- Last but not least, both saw distinct advantages in choosing to stay rooted in the Boston innovation ecosystem – not surprising, given the talent pools locally, but both panelists cited an industrial history in New England that has kept valuable knowledge on legacy industries within the local ecosystem as being a unique regional advantage.
Excited to watch both companies continue to grow, and looking forward to returning to MassChallenge again!
Empowering Innovators | Building Vibrant Communities | Champion of Positive Change
Community is at the heart of innovation, especially when it comes to addressing significant challenges like ensuring a sustainable future for our planet.
Last night, MassChallenge had the privilege of partnering with the Cleantech Group and The Massachusetts Founders Network to delve into the future of sustainability in our buildings. It was truly inspiring to witness the wealth of insights shared by Derek Stein, CEO of Adept Materials, Cayman Somerville, Director of Operations at Sublime Systems, and Anthony DeOrsey Jr., Research Manager at Cleantech Group.
In addition to our esteemed panelists, we were delighted to have a fantastic group of founders from pioneering companies like OGA Street Tech, SolaBlock, Prezerv Technologies, Bootbox Labs, and River Otter Renewables, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in climate tech.
This event was a powerful demonstration of the transformative impact that collaboration and innovation can have in driving positive change. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the success of this enlightening gathering.
