The holidays are a time of gratitude, and there is no better time to celebrate the small and local businesses that make DC the best city in the world. Mayor Bowser and DMPED proudly awarded $7 million to 41 local DC businesses through Great Streets Retail, Locally Made Manufacturing, and Neighborhood Prosperity Fund grant programs. When we invest in our small and local businesses, we are in turn supporting vibrant and thriving neighborhoods. Shoutout to The DC Arts Center in Adam's Morgan for hosting us as a previous grant recipient! A Monumental Day for DC! Mayor Bowser and Deputy Mayor Albert joined Monumental Sports & Entertainment to celebrate the start of a new chapter for Capital One Arena and shared some previews of what the new Arena will look like. This is a catalytic investment that’s good for our Downtown, our city, as well as the teams, fans, and entire region. A huge shoutout to the DMPED Big Deal team, including Jonathan Kayne, Susan Longstreet, Jay Surabian, and Nate Klass for getting this historic partnership over the finish line! We also thank members of the Mayor's Gallery Place-Chinatown Taskforce, chaired by Jodie McClean and Debby Ratner-Salzberg, for their incredible leadership, for believing in Downtown DC, and for creating and sharing 8 big ideas for what's to come in the future. These are our teams. This is our home. And we’re going to have the best urban arena in the entire country, right here in the heart of the nation’s capital. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to see this project get underway. Read more about yesterday's celebration here: https://lnkd.in/gaWsF4zX

We're proud that DC is a thriving hub for tech and innovation. But, we also know that access to funding and resources remains a top challenge for too many entrepreneurs—especially underrepresented founders. We're excited that Mayor Bowser, DMPED, and K Street Capital have launched the DC Venture Capital Program, a new $26 million fund dedicated to investing in and supporting DC-based tech startups. The DC Venture Capital Fund represents a transformative commitment to DC-based businesses by leveraging public dollars to attract private investment. So, if you’re an investor in DC, and you want to invest in tech startups, we want to talk to you. We want to work with Fund Managers who know DC. Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development reposted this
Two big announcements in the last week about investments in DC buisnesses! Today, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development announced the launch of the DC Venture Capital Fund, a $26 million fund that will make equity investments in early-stage tech companies in DC. We’re partnering with K Street Capital to administer the Fund, using funds from the US Department of Treasury SSBCI program. DMPED and K Street Capital are currently seeking interested fund managers to be part of the program and help make investments in DC-based companies. Many people made this program possible, and will continue supporting the DC tech ecosystem, especially Paige Soya Adam Lattimore, MPA Tsjenna Nick Duafala Josiah Keilson Jessica Milano. Last Thursday, Mayor Bowser and DMPED announced $7 million in grants to DC small businesses through the Great Streets, Locally Made, and Neighborhood Prosperity Fund grant programs. These grants help small businesses in neighborhood commercial corridors invest in their space, expand their operations, bring new amenities to their communities and create jobs. Congratulations to the recipients, and to Elizabeth Anderson and Kavya Balaji for their work to support small businesses in DC. These programs are two ways the District is supporting businesses in DC and helping grow our economy. #venturecapital #smallbusiness #economicdevelopment

The District is committed to working with U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to repurpose underutilized federal buildings into productive uses for our community. The GSA Regional Office Building is in a prime location between the National Mall and The Wharf, and we look forward to coordinating a strategy that maximizes value for the federal government and vibrancy to Southwest DC. https://lnkd.in/ePRwAtCT
