  • Novonesis achieves key milestone with approval of 2'-FL HMO in China     We are pleased to announce the approval of the first of our five commercialized HMOs in China. This is an important step towards introducing additional HMOs (Human Milk Oligosaccharides) of our MyOli® 5 HMO Mix.    With the nutrition fortifier approval of our first HMO (2’-FL), infant formula producers in China can now file for, and gain approval of recipes containing our 2’-FL. Beyond infant formula, the approval also enables the use in other prepared milk powder, older infant and young children formula, as well as infant formula for special medical purposes.     At Novonesis, we are excited about the prospect of bringing the great benefits of our HMOs to families and infants across the Chinese market.    “Securing the approval of 2'-FL in China is a key milestone for us on our journey to bring the benefits of our HMO solutions to infants in China and advancing HMO science in collaboration with our infant formula partners in the region,” says Thomas Stenfeldt Batchelor, Senior Vice President of Advanced Health and Protein Solutions at Novonesis.    Learn more in the press release: https://lnkd.in/d6_jFaV8     #biosolutions #HMO #novonesis

  • How biosolutions help us take control of our health Did you know that the human microbiome is made up of 38 trillion microbes that live in and on us? They help develop our immune system to be stronger, making us able to fight off infections, digest food and produce the hormones we need in our bodies. In this video, our colleague Adam Baker, Director of Science in Human Health Biosolutions, explains more about the microbiome. He also shares his perspective on the way biosolutions can contribute to human health:  "Research into the microbiome is a brand new area. We now have the science and technology to see and look and start to understand how the microbiome is playing all of its amazing roles. One example is the impact of the food we eat on our physical and mental wellbeing," he says. Adam shares how biosolutions can enable the foundation for healthier lives: "Based on our research, we develop products that can have beneficial effects on the microbiome throughout life stages. We have some of the world's most documented probiotic strains for gut health, but we also have biosolutions for mental health, immune health, women's health and early life nutrition." • "And the winner is Novonesis!" In this video clip, you can catch a few highlights from our time at the Food Ingredients Europe conference in Frankfurt, Germany. Here, our colleagues met with many inspiring people across the food industry. We were also happy that one of our biosolutions in baking, Novamyl BestBite, was recognized as the winner of the innovation award. During the conference, our Regional President Johan Weimann spoke to FoodNavigator about what trends we are currently seeing in the food and beverage space:  "We're seeing a significant emphasis on health, nutritional value, and sustainability. Our biosolutions are tailored to meet these evolving demands, aligning with the increasing expectations for healthier and more sustainable products," he said.  He also talked about the role of biosolutions for plant-based food:  "We are using our combination of cultures and enzymes to improve the taste and texture of plant-based food. Producers are challenged in regard to functionality, such as taste, texture and solubility of plant proteins. We believe biosolutions will play a critical role in overcoming these challenges, and therefore we continue to invest in this area." What is the cost of inaction in the global climate crisis? Climate-related disasters have inflicted over $3.6 trillion in damage since 2000, more than doubling in 20 years.  Our CEO Ester Baiget is co-chair of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders within World Economic Forum. In a new report made in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the numbers clearly show that investing in climate action is not only the right choice for the planet – it’s also the best business decision. According to the report, for each dollar invested in climate adaptation, businesses can expect between $2 and $19 in returns. And by 2030, green markets are projected to triple from $5 trillion to $14 trillion. "Climate transformation isn't about avoiding risks. It's about building resilience AND unlocking growth. It's about turning challenges into competitive advantages AND innovation opportunities. The companies taking bold climate action today aren't just preparing for the future – they're actively shaping it. At Novonesis, this is core to who we are. The question isn't 'should we', but how to do it faster," she said after the release of the report. • Making the soil work to feed 10 billion people by 2050 Yesterday was World Soil Day, which is an annual occasion marked by the United Nations, focusing on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. Biosolutions can play a key part in keeping our soil healthy for the future generations. In this article from our biosolutions bulletin, you can learn about how microbes and fungi can be used to replace chemical fertilizers and pesticides, strengthening our plants naturally. "Scientists discovered that numerous bacteria, fungi, and other microbes in the soil, invisible to the naked eye, are key to making plants robust from the inside. These microbes enable plants to absorb essential nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus from the soil. They also regulate many plant functions, including disease resistance," the article reads. • Novonesis CEO Ester Baiget is featured by United Nations Global Compact for new CEO Agenda leadership platform Today, we are proud that our CEO Ester Baiget is featured among inspiring leaders in UN Global Compact’s CEO Agenda, a new platform bringing together public and private sectors. It can inspire leaders to reshape the way their businesses operate, embedding sustainability as the cornerstone of growth. For this occasion, Ester was interviewed by UN Global Compact, sharing her thoughts on leadership and the role of the CEO:  "It's not only about surviving the next quarter. It's about setting the foundation for something bigger. It's creating the home of your employees, a place where they feel that they belong." She also emphasizes the need for business leaders to embrace responsibility for change: "I want to be one voice that hopefully helps someone else to make a better decision. Our role is to make sure that we bring the relevant information so the best decisions can be taken. We have to embrace that responsibility. If we implement the biosolutions we already have today, we would reduce the global emissions by 8%. Why is that not happening? One big roadblock is regulation. It makes unnecessary constraints on implementation of innovation," she says.  Finally, she talks about her own motivation for being a sustainability leader:  "This is the only way of getting things right. It's for the future of my kids, me as a human being, for our shareholders and for our employees." • "Now that we are reaching billions of consumers, we are operating at a scale that makes a real difference." Our colleague EVP Jacob Paulsen, Food & Beverage Biosolutions, was interviewed for the 30th anniversary edition of the The World of Food Ingredients magazine by Food Ingredients First. In the interview, he talks about the status of Novonesis in the food and beverage sector: "It's an exciting time at Novonesis, and we are off to an amazing start as a recently merged company. Overall, we estimate that several billion people consume something with a Novonesis ingredient every day. This is impressive, but it also means that we have a lot of responsibility to keep innovating in this space." He also talks about the impact of our biosolutions in the fight against food waste: "Food waste is one area where we can really make a difference. In the current food production, one-third of food that has moved through processing into retail and consumer homes gets thrown away. Our biosolutions, which include enzymes and microbes, can facilitate the transition to longer product shelf lives. Currently, some of our biggest successes are in bread and yoghurt, but our solutions can be applied to most categories."
