Newmont is transitioning its Red Chris mine from open pit to block cave mining – a technique that can unlock 80,000 tonnes of copper per year. This transformational opportunity is anticipated to increase Canada’s copper production by 15% while providing economic benefits to local communities and the region for generations. Compared to the current open pit mine, the block cave technique will improve environmental outcomes by: 🌬️ Reducing dust generation 🪨 Reducing waste rock managed at the surface 🤝 Creating opportunities to assess and potentially incorporate new technologies into the mine closure plan ♻️ Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by more than 50% Learn more about the future in the video below or head to our virtual open house to explore ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGnajgyB #Newmont #CopperMining #ResponsibleMining

Gender-based violence affects millions of people around the world. In Papua New Guinea, Newmont’s Lihir operation and its support offices in Port Moresby, New Ireland and Brisbane (Australia) raise awareness about gender-based violence through Lihir's flagship anti-violence program, Trupla Meri Trupla Man (TMTM). By addressing the disconnect between a safe and happy home and a safe, sustainable and productive workplace, TMTM has empowered employees, contractors, stakeholders and local communities over the years to be champions of change. In recognition of this year’s United Nations 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, our Lihir operation made a bold statement against all forms of violence by installing a pink TMTM tray on one of its haul trucks. At Newmont, we strive for a future where everyone is valued, respected and safe. _____ The UN 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls (VAWG). It runs from November 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until December 10. #Newmont #CommunityInvestment #DEI #DiversityInMining
