Last week, Dale Nellor, our SVP of Government Affairs, visited West Des Moines to provide a legislative update at the Iowa Turkey Federation’s (ITF) 2024 Winter Meeting. It was a fantastic week engaging with the dedicated members of Iowa’s turkey delegation to discuss agricultural policy, upcoming NTF events and to reconnect with both new and familiar faces. 🌟 Member Spotlight: Shane Acosta of Cargill 🌟 In the spirit of giving this holiday season, Shane Acosta of Cargill played a key role in providing 25,000 meals to those in need by helping fry 1,600 turkeys in Nashville for Tracy Lawrence’s 19th annual Mission: Possible Turkey Fry. As part of the event, more than 300 volunteers also helped deliver frozen turkeys to food shelters across Middle Tennessee, impacting countless homeless and food-insecure individuals in Nashville and the surrounding communities. On Friday, Peach and Blossom, the 2024 National Thanksgiving Turkeys, made a special appearance at the Farmamerica - Minnesota's Center for Agricultural Interpretation Turkey Trot & Breakfast, where they served as the honorary race starters. Farmamerica in Waseca is their new "forever home," where these presidential turkeys will serve as agricultural ambassadors for the state of Minnesota. President Biden took part in his final turkey pardon Monday, sparing Minnesota's own Peach and Blossom from becoming someone's holiday dinner in an annual White House tradition.

Did you know? President Harry Truman was the first recipient of an "official" Thanksgiving Turkey from the National Turkey Federation, but he wasn't the first to pardon one. That tomfoolery began a bit later. We're closed for Thanksgiving, open the day after to walk off those calories and learn a little history.
