Bureau of Land Management Fire's next generation of engines are getting a new look in #FireYear2025! The National Fire Equipment Program, or NFEP, based at the National Interagency Fire Center, traveled to BFX Fire Apparatus in Weatherford, Texas to inspect new 662 type 6 engines for the Bureau of Land Management, along with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Fire, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and National Park Service Fire and Aviation Management. This trip was exciting because it provided a couple of firsts for the NFEP and the U.S. Department of the Interior bureaus the NFEP supports. This is the first time they have inspected a 662 from each bureau since the BLM changed to a white chassis and striping was standardized for all DOI fire equipment. ICYMI 🚨 - the NFEP is hiring an equipment specialist at NIFC! If a #FireJob involved with inspecting new engines, helping design, develop, deliver, order, and maintain fire engines and support vehicles sounds exciting to you- apply today! 📍 Boise, Idaho 🔥 GS 9 - 11 ➡️ Apply here by 12/23: https://lnkd.in/gKgu-jxW 📸 Photos 1-3: new white type 6 engines inspected at BFX Fire; Photo 4: the last yellow 662 engine from spring 2024, part of the BLM OR/WA Spokane District Fire program. #ItTakesAllOfUs #WeAreBLMFire #NotYourOrdinaryJob #CareerInFire

#NationalFireNews: December 13, 2024. Initial attack activity was light this week. Five new large fires were reported and wildland firefighters were able to contain three of them. Two uncontained large fires are burning, one in California and the other in Virginia. In #FireYear2024, 54,769 wildfires have burned 8,503,953 acres. This is below the 10-year average for wildfires and about two million above the average number of acres burned. Fires are natural events that shape our wildlands, and no region is immune. You can learn to live with fire and become more compatible by becoming #Firewise. If you live or build near forests and rangelands, you need to be prepared for wildfire. Now is a great time to see if you are at risk.
