In Atlanta, the need for affordable housing has never been more critical—and we’re meeting the challenge. National Church Residences is proud to have 17 communities in the Atlanta metro are, providing seniors with safe, stable, and affordable homes. The recent approval of a tax-exempt bond for Martin House by Invest Atlanta is a key example of how strategic partnerships are making an impact. This is part of a larger effort to finance the creation or preservation of 218 affordable housing projects across the city, ensuring more opportunities for housing. With the acquisition of Martin House, National Church Residences will utilize this funding to renovate this Adamsville property that 153 seniors call home. We’re excited to be part of this change, with Georgia Department of Community Affairs allocating $36 million in housing tax credits for this project, as well as the support of Partners for HOME and Atlanta Housing we’re committed to continuing our work to expand access to service enriched affordable housing for all. At National Church Residences, we are committed to ongoing education and empowering our team to better serve our residents with dementia. Recently, nearly 60 team members at First Community Village (Columbus, Ohio) participated in a Virtual Dementia Tour, designed to simulate the sensory and cognitive challenges faced by individuals living with dementia. Through this exercise, participants wore: 👓 Special glasses to mimic vision impairments 🧤 Gloves to reduce dexterity 👣 Shoe inserts to simulate neuropathy 🎧 Headphones playing static to replicate hearing loss Once inside a staged environment, staff were tasked with completing everyday activities, gaining a deeper appreciation of the obstacles our residents may face. This impactful exercise provided our team with a small glimpse into what some of our residents are experiencing, reinforcing the importance of empathy in our care. Educational experiences like this are just one way we ensure our Memory Care programs continue to provide compassionate, person-centered support. Grand Place, a historic gem built in 1926, is one of our affordable senior apartment communities near downtown Dayton, Ohio. This income-restricted community serves seniors aged 55+ and has been beautifully restored in 2024, blending its timeless charm with modern amenities. Today, we hosted a luncheon to celebrate the stunning renovations with our residents. Before enjoying a meal together, residents were treated to music from a DJ and remarks from President & CEO, Susan DiMickele, VP of Affordable Housing Amy Rosenthal, and Project Lead of Affordable Housing Development, Alexander Clark. To commemorate the occasion, Grand Place received a special gift: a collection of board games, including a puzzle featuring their very own community. The renovation brought a fresh, updated look to Grand Place, with new bedroom carpeting, luxury vinyl plank flooring, updated kitchen cabinets and appliances, and modernized bathrooms—all within the beautifully preserved structure of this historic building. We’re thrilled to share this new chapter for Grand Place, where history meets modern comfort for seniors in Dayton.
