Fantastic article in The Guardian today by the Health Policy Editor Denis Campbell, on a new study undertaken for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, by Frontier Economics and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Arts and Health (Social Biobehavioural Research Group at UCL). "Consuming culture is good for your health and wellbeing – and generates £8bn a year worth of improvements in people’s quality of life and higher productivity. That is the conclusion of the first major UK research to quantify the impact the arts and heritage can have on physical and mental health and the monetary value of the advantages they bring." “We can value those impacts in terms of reduced costs to the NHS, increased productivity at work and improved quality of life.” #creativityforhealthylives Read more https://lnkd.in/dyTJw2ZG

This week our NCCH Director was delighted to be invited to the National Academy for Social Prescribing(NASP) launch of a new report ‘Envisaging a Social Prescribing Fund in England’ which makes the case for shared investment funding to support the provision of social prescribing services at a local level. Find out more https://lnkd.in/gii5vRpJ As #socialprescribing powerfully intersects with #creativehealth it is great to hear more about the Report, especially because we know arts on prescription programmes have shown good social return on investment and have led to savings in the NHS through decreases in healthcare utilisation. This new blog by our Midlands Creative Health Associate Jane Hearst explores one effective way to follow up: creating an action plan proposal.
