About us
At myUbuntu, we believe that Africa’s future lies in the hands of its smallholder farmers. These farmers are the backbone of the continent, feeding nations and sustaining communities. However, they are also among the most vulnerable to the growing threats of climate change, financial instability, and market inefficiencies. At myUbuntu, our mission is simple yet profound: to empower these farmers by delivering innovative, scalable solutions that provide security, stability, and growth. Our work is centered around two transformative pillars: Parametric Insurance Solutions and the myUbuntu Agri Platform. These initiatives are designed to address the most pressing challenges that farmers face today, ensuring that they have the tools, knowledge, and financial security to not just survive—but thrive—in an increasingly uncertain world. Smallholder farmers across Africa face a formidable enemy—climate change. Unpredictable weather patterns, including droughts, floods, and temperature extremes, threaten their livelihoods every season. Traditional insurance models have proven insufficient in addressing the unique challenges of these farmers, who often cannot afford high premiums or wait for lengthy claims processing in times of crisis. That’s where myUbuntu steps in. Our parametric insurance solution is a game-changer. It’s fast, affordable, and designed with the specific needs of African farmers in mind. Unlike traditional indemnity insurance, parametric insurance provides payouts based on pre-agreed triggers such as rainfall levels, temperature thresholds, or other weather indicators. This means that when adverse weather strikes, farmers receive automatic payouts without the need for time-consuming claims assessments. For a smallholder farmer, a single season of crop loss can mean the difference between recovery and ruin. Parametric insurance is not just a product; it’s a promise—a promise that no farmer should be left without support in their time of need.

🌟 Monumental step in our journey at myUbuntu. 🌟 Under the shade of this tree in Zimbabwe, we onboarded our first farmers into our parametric insurance programme. This isn’t just about insurance—it’s about hope, dignity, and safeguarding livelihoods. For too long, farmers across Africa have borne the brunt of climate change with no safety net. Today, we take a stand to change that. Seeing this idea come to life was deeply emotional. These farmers are the backbone of Africa’s food system, and knowing that we can prevent a family from losing everything to drought or floods is a powerful reminder of why we do this. It’s a reminder that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about humanity. Together, we’re building a future where no farmer has to choose between starvation and survival. This is just the beginning, but what a beginning it is! Thank you to everyone who believed in this vision especially to Lloyd's Lab. Here’s to many more farmers protected, livelihoods saved, and dreams rebuilt. 🚨 A Call to Action: Protecting Africa’s Farmers 🌱 Did you know that climate change could reduce crop yields in Sub-Saharan Africa by up to 30% by 2050? 🚜 Empowering #Farmers Through Innovative #Insurance Solutions 🌾 Did you know that half of smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan #Africa risk losing their entire crops every year due to #droughts, #floods, and other climate shocks? 🌧️ Yet, fewer than 3% have access to agricultural #insurance. Through our journey with Lloyd's Lab, we have been working tirelessly to refine our parametric insurance solution that offers immediate payouts triggered by real-time weather data. 🌦️ This means farmers get the financial support they need exactly when they need it—without lengthy claims processes or red tape. 🚀 The support and insights from industry leaders at Lloyd’s Lab have been transformative, helping us sharpen our approach and form partnerships to scale our impact. Together, we’re building a future where every farmer can confidently invest in their crops, knowing they have a safety net in place. Join us in transforming agriculture and creating a resilient future for Africa’s farmers. 🌱💪🏾 #LloydsLab #myUbuntuInsurance #ParametricInsurance #Agritech #ClimateResilience #ImpactInvesting #AfricanFarmers Nicky Gouder JP Fabri Nigel Daura Jack Bassett Gabriele Villa Mikir Shah Ilyas Ismail ACMA Ciaran O'Donnell FCA Mark Huxley FRSA Timon Halbach Rupesh Appannah Rupert Weterings Jessie Callender Dan Kay Rebecca Kendrick Kieran Linger Chloe Kaye Hattie Armstrong Susanne Austin

In this week's opinion piece, our co-founder JP Fabri talks about #COP29, currently underway in Baku which once again brought the world’s attention to the urgent need for decisive action on #climatechange. As nations gather to discuss the future of our planet, African leaders, particularly Rwanda’s representatives, brought a powerful message to the table: #Africa is not just a victim of climate change but a proactive agent of change. With a focus on #resilience, #economictransformation, and innovative #financing, African nations have highlighted the path forward to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth in the face of escalating climate challenges. In this context, the role of #parametricinsurance was highlighted as a critical tool for disaster preparedness and economic stability. Unlike traditional insurance, which is based on loss assessments, parametric insurance provides immediate payouts when specific environmental conditions, such as rainfall levels or temperatures, are met.
