Yesterday, Congress released the legislative text of the Continuing Resolution (CR) to extend funding for the current fiscal year until March 14, 2025. The bill includes a number of pending pieces of legislation, including A Stronger Workforce for America (ASWA), which reauthorizes the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) through 2030. The inclusion of ASWA in this bill is an important milestone for our nation’s public workforce system. NAWB remains concerned about certain provisions in the bill and their impact on local boards’ ability to fulfill their missions – such as the redesignation process and expanding the Governor’s set-aside allowance. However, we are pleased to see several changes within the proposal that have been made since the bicameral bipartisan Committee agreement was announced a few weeks ago. On International Migrants Day, Dec. 18, we recognize the contributions of migrant workers and affirm their labor rights. While all workers in the U.S. are protected by most labor laws, migrant workers are more likely to be exploited and, with limited experience in the country and varying levels of English, may not know about these protections. MigrantWorker.gov, a worker-centered website in eight languages, answers common questions and provides information about migrant worker rights from recruitment, to working in the U.S., to a safe return home.

City of Atlanta Government talks SYEP numbers and impact! Our Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) results are in! #SYEP connected 6,500 registered youth with 143 employers, providing an average wage of $17.70 per hour. My final speaking engagement of 2024 is officially in the books, and my heart is full!❤️ On Monday, I had the privilege of being the opening keynote speaker for FlowCon 2024, the inaugural in-person user summit for myOneFlow by Empyra. myOneFlow supports state, local, and community agencies in workforce development, adult education, and apprenticeship through its case management solutions—what an incredible mission! The topic? Love Yourself Radically: A Self-Love Revolution for the Givers.❤️ We dug into a message that hits close to home: self-love isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity for leaders. It’s the foundation for leading well and living fully, even if it feels a little “woo woo” at first. The interactive keynote was designed for contribution, not just consumption so it gave participants a chance to reflect, share, and connect on a deeply human level. What filled my heart most were the mini-coaching sessions I offered afterward. Seeing people take that first step toward prioritizing themselves was a beautiful reminder of why this work matters so much. AND, that's not all I did this week! Because what else do you do when you're in Dallas, TX? You go to a Cowboys Monday Night Football game, of course! SO.MUCH.FUN!!🏈 As I look ahead to 2025, I’m thrilled to continue spreading this message of well-being, connection, and human-centered leadership.
