Parents, drop your kids at MoMath and head out to enjoy discounts of up to 20% at nearby restaurants – enjoy date night while your child has a great (and mathematically fun!) night at the Museum. MoMath's MOST Fellows – early-career female mathematicians who serve as role models and inspire young women (and others!) – are leading a special new series of presentations that kick off MoMath's Sunday mix-n-mingle series for teens and tweens. Seen here, MOST Fellow Katie Grebel invites a group of middle and high school students in October’s session to explore some surprises about the standard order of operations rule, taking this simple grade school concept and using it to lead students into a bit of college-level mathematics, presented in a fun, easy-to-understand way. If you have middle or high school-age children at home who love math (and tasty chocolate chip cookies), drop them off at the next session on November 24, where they can become an investigative mathematician for a day, going on an adventure that begins when they encounter a mysterious situation in the wild and need to follow a trail of clues to unravel the facts and solve the mystery. After the talk, teens and tweens are encouraged to stay to explore the Museum’s dynamic exhibits – without the crowds – and enjoy music, cookies, and hot chocolate until you come back to retrieve them. Applications are open for the 2024 MOST Program at the National Museum of Mathematics! This unique program invites a talented cohort of early career female mathematicians to develop the skills needed to communicate their areas of research to the public in a way that is both engaging and accessible. Women with a PhD in math (or a closely aligned field) and advanced PhD candidates are welcome to apply. The MOST program features an in-person training seminar on July 10–12 in collaboration with the Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) in New York City. Learn more, read testimonials from the 2023 MOST Fellows, and apply today at momath.org/MOST.
