Activating transformational local leadership worldwide.

About us

Mountaintop International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works toward a future where every community can solve its own problems in order to build a just, loving, and peaceful world for all. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose "Mountaintop" speech called for a locally led movement to stir our global consciousness, Mountaintop cultivates transformational local leadership and strengthens communities in places worldwide where success too often means leaving and not coming back. Mountaintop’s flagship program is a paid, one-year, full-time fellowship for the most promising local leaders to stay in or return to their home communities and contribute to systems change in lower-income places around the world. Mountaintop’s Fellows receive a full-time stipend, two week leadership institute hosted at Harvard University's Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics, 1:1 mentorship, grants, and a lifelong community of inspiring peers to accelerate their local leadership journey and prepare them for large-scale impact to transform their communities and countries.

  • 🌟 This #GivingTuesday, Let’s Activate Transformational Leadership Together! At Mountaintop International, we believe that the world’s most promising emerging leaders are the key to building a better world, but so few of these leaders have the support they need. Our flagship Mountaintop Fellowship equips emerging leaders from 17 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to accelerate their leadership journey through grants and a paid two week training at the Harvard Safra Center for Ethics. But for far too many, Mountaintop’s limited budget stands in the way of accessing this life-changing opportunity. This Giving Tuesday, we’re rallying to raise scholarships for high-need Fellows—exceptional individuals from the lowest income countries in the world whose potential deserves to shine. Your gift can help: ✅ Cover the costs for Fellows who we would otherwise be unable to select ✅ Amplify transformational solutions that are helping thousands of people in low-income communities ✅ Build a more equitable future, one leader at a time Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to a world where every community has the human infrastructure to lead its own development and flourish. How you can help: 🔗 Donate today and invest in the leaders of tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/gUAgutmZ 🤝 Share this post to help us spread the word. Together, let’s create pathways for leaders to change the world. #GivingTuesday #MountaintopInternational

Global Health Innovation Fellow at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Joining Mountaintop International Leadership Fellowship through the Trinity Church Wall Street Anglican Track has been truly enriching. What I enjoy most is the small group of six of us crawling through the Faith Leadership Campus Course 😂😂😂😂. We all acknowledge our weaknesses as emerging social enterprises and faith leaders, which we are trying to fix through this world-class leadership fellowship. The conflict transformation module has been ablaze this month for sure. I and James Otai have been truly crawling, while Mercy Musingo on the other end feels like she now has a Ph.D. in conflict resolution😂😂😂, we all dropped jaws wondering how she has done it during this week's catch-up session. We also had a hot seat session with our own Esther Ajudeonu during which the rest of us asked her questions to learn more about how she was able to successfully organize a massive summit event recently. She is an excellent convenor. We wanted to understand how one can be both a great convenor and facilitator, a concept we dived into during the conflict transformation session. The concepts of facilitator and convenor are very crucial in conflict transformation. James Otai, Mercy Musingo, Esther Ajudeonu, Bochola Sara Arero, and Loruba Manasseh, You guys are wonderful people! These fellows are so amazing. I feel a sense of belonging and I am always looking forward to our meeting day. Our appreciation to the Mountaintop International team, Trinity Church Wall Street and Faith Leadership Campus Team, Reed Shafer-Ray, Unnati Joshi If you want to become a better leader, then you should consider becoming a part of the Mountaintop International Leadership Community!

  • #fridayfeature Today, we are happy to feature another incredible Mountaintop community member, Moses. T. Thuranira., a 2024 cohort shortlisted applicant whose passion for storytelling and advocacy has empowered youth across Northern Kenya. Growing up in Northern Kenya, Moses witnessed the resilience of his community and the challenges it faced, which fueled his dedication to social advocacy. As an award-winning filmmaker and founder of Kaskazini Studios, Moses amplifies marginalized voices, using storytelling to drive change. His co-directed film Between the Rains showcased at Tribeca, highlights the strength of communities facing climate challenges. A proud co-founder of the Isiolo Advocacy Network, Moses helped transform an early grassroots movement into a formal organization tackling social and climate justice in Isiolo County. Through this network, Moses and his team uplift youth, foster gender equality, and promote environmental responsibility, empowering the next generation of changemakers. Programs under the Network’s Skills Training initiative offer young people practical skills in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and vocational areas, while Art and Film programs provide training in photography, filmmaking, and storytelling—allowing youth to become advocates for their communities. Moses’s work includes raising awareness around gender equality and opposing harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). As a Mandela Washington Fellow and Points North Institute Fellow, Moses collaborates with organizations like ActionAid Kenya, building a platform for Northern Kenya’s youth to lead innovation, advocate for change, and envision a future of justice and opportunity for all. #mountaintopcommunity #mountaintopinternational

  • After exploring the previous two terms, today’s focus is on a concept that is fundamental to our work and vision. 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Human Infrastructure refers to the skills, relationships, values, and capacity within a community that empowers individuals to collaborate effectively, address challenges, and build resilience. This type of infrastructure emphasizes investment in people, the cultivation of leadership, and the development of community networks as essential foundations for sustainable growth and well-being.
