88% of learners self-identified as “frontline staff” and the remaining 12% of learners self identified as “a leader” in a survey conducted independently by a client, after taking the MIH SOGIE 3 eLearning course: Build Language and Skills that Welcome Transgender Patients Course. In addition to the 8% of the U.S. population who identified as Lesbian (L), Gay (G), Bisexual (B), or Trans (T) in 2021, an extra 2% identified as having a sexual orientation other than L, G, B or straight. There are a wide range of sexual orientations and gender identities in addition to LGBTQ, so you may encounter the plus sign, or other letters attached to the acronym representing other identifiers. Some examples of other sexual orientations are demisexual, asexual, and pansexual. If you would like further explanation of these terms let us know in the comments! _____ Definition of LGBTQ+: this is an umbrella term that stands for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Sometimes a Q is included in the acronym to encompass those who identify as queer.
