About us
The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that supports the implementation of policies and programs that help Texans obtain effective, efficient mental health care when and where they need it. The Institute’s vision is for Texas to be the national leader in treating people with mental health needs. The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute provides high quality, nonpartisan and objective policy research and development to improve mental health services in Texas. As news broke of the tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wis., the Meadows Institute’s own trauma and grief expert Julie Kaplow-Kline, PhD, ABPP provided live analysis on MSNBC. She shared insights on how school shootings and other traumatic events can impact children, and offered timely guidance for parents and caregivers on how to best support children in the aftermath. Oftentimes, parents and caregivers shy away from talking about such traumatic events because they worry it could upset the child further, Kaplow told senior national correspondent Chris Jansing. “But we have learned that the more we can discuss it in a way that allows the kids to ask questions, express their worries and concerns, the better they are going to do in the long run.” For parents and caregivers seeking guidance on how to help support children after a school shooting, Dr. Kaplow has additional resources available on our Trauma & Grief Center’s website: https://bit.ly/41GSDR2 #Trauma #Grief #AbundantLifeChristianSchool #MadisonWisconsin
