Partnering with you to achieve near-zero blood culture contamination rates with Steripath
About us
Magnolia Medical Technologies is on a Mission to ZERO®. Today, we offer healthcare institutions a solution to some of their biggest hidden problems – contamination leading to misdiagnosis of bloodstream infections, including sepsis, which can lead to unnecessary and prolonged antibiotic therapy, and false-positive CLABSIs. Tomorrow, we aspire to create a world free of in-vitro diagnostic errors where rapid, accurate test results improve the lives of patients and providers alike. We know that setting new standards of care is a journey enabled by purposeful innovation, partnerships, and perseverance. As the first step of our journey, we have successfully developed and proven our evidence-based technology platform, Steripath, which we’ve coupled with unparalleled support to change clinical practices and prevent unnecessary patient harm as well as system-wide costs associated with the misdiagnosis of sepsis. Our mission is further enabled by reducing false-positive CLABSIs and leveraging our extensive intellectual property portfolio – consisting of over 100 issued method, apparatus, and design patents and 70+ patent applications pending – to address other important sources of diagnostic error that are harmful to patients and costly to hospitals.

🌍 It’s World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week! Antibiotics save lives, but overuse and misuse are making them less effective, posing a serious global health challenge. One major driver of overuse? Inaccurate diagnoses caused by unreliable test results, such as a blood culture contamination. When a contamination occurs, it can produce false-positive results, leading to unnecessary antibiotic treatments, prolonged use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, and increased risks of antibiotic-related infections like C. difficile. By addressing contamination, healthcare teams can: ✅Prevent unnecessary antibiotic use, reducing days of therapy for drugs like Vancomycin. ✅ Improve diagnostic confidence, guiding more appropriate and timely treatment decisions. ✅ Support antibiotic stewardship, protecting patients and combating resistance. #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance #WAAW

Exciting Update on Blood Culture Best Practices: 📢 The American Society for Microbiology has now included blood culture diversion devices with a Level II recommendation in its evidence-based guidelines, citing only studies using the Steripath® technology platform when referencing engineered diversion devices. This inclusion follows a systematic review indicating that diversion devices, when used as part of a broader implementation bundle, significantly reduce blood culture contamination (BCC) rates, with Steripath-specific studies showing an 83% and 88% reduction. The most successful BCC reduction strategy combines evidence-based technology with comprehensive support, training, and education—precisely what Magnolia Medical provides in partnership with hospitals nationwide. The total solution approach helps prevent false positives, reduce unnecessary antimicrobial treatments, minimize healthcare costs, and enables faster identification of true infections.
