    Crystal Landsem was 39 when she became the CEO of Lulus. Why? Air conditioning. "In terms of what drove me to take on this type of responsibility, if you asked me 20 years ago, the honest answer would have been for air conditioning." Let me provide some context... She self-funded her education at Chico State, working for Walmart distribution. Hot warehouse. Forklifts. Conveyor belts. Air conditioning became her motivation. Not what I expected either. But Crystal didn't come from money and her path relied on building things for herself. She worked hard, focusing on her skillset, leaning on her mentors for guidance, and taking every opportunity to learn. First, her hard work was recognized at Alibaba Group, when she was promoted to Director of Finance for US Subsidiaries. Then at Lulus, when she joined the C-suite as CFO. And finally, she was asked to step up to the CEO role at Lulus - now a publicly listed company. Her financial acumen paired with a deep connection to brand experience was what got her the job. But resilience was her superpower. Growing up in challenging circumstances, Crystal developed a thick skin early on. "When you experience high levels of stress and trauma in your early years, everything in comparison feels easy." This resilience, coupled with her curiosity and passion for learning, propelled her forward. Today, Crystal leads with empathy, high accountability, and a deep understanding of both the analytical and creative sides of the business. Her journey from warehouse worker to CEO proves that with determination, continuous learning, and resilience, anything is possible.     Lulus recently had the honor of co-sponsoring the Gyrl Wonder Leadership Academy, held in New York City. The leadership academy was created to help young women of color discover careers that align with their passions and teach them how to build mutually beneficial professional relationships. 🙌🏾 The week-long camp gave over 20 young women ages 17-23 the opportunity to learn from influential people of color in leadership roles across entertainment, music, TV and film, and fashion—including Lulus’ own SVP of Brand Marketing, Patrick Buchanan. 🌟The girls had the opportunity to meet and hear from Patrick, who spoke with them about his career trajectory and pathway into the fashion industry, detailing his journey from a shy kid in Kentucky to a successful executive who made his dreams into reality. They took notes, asked great questions, and came away with tons of valuable career insights. 🚀We're thrilled to play a part in cultivating the next generation of women leaders through our partnership with Gyrl Wonder Inc.
