Some thoughts on ethics, transparency and change ~ Working both as an ICF ACC coach, trainer for coaching students as co-founder and co-trainer of Life Coaching Institute of America, ICF Level 1 Approved Program, and as a licensed professional counselor for well over 14 years, clients/students and professionals have often inquired about my approach with clients in these differing scopes of practice. * My approach remains consistent with listening well to the focus and outcomes desired by clients/students. Client/student needs may be diverse and my approach is simple and complex. Referrals may be offered if another supportive service might best meet the needs of the client/student. * I do not co-mingle the practice of coaching/training and counseling. Once a coaching client and/or student always a coaching client/student. Once a counseling client - I will not crossover at a later time and provide coaching services. The scope of services being offered will not be changed over time. My ethical approach and guidelines. *The agenda and focus is client driven *Providing a safe and non-judgemental space for conversation is essential * I believe the client/student to be the expert of their life * Commitment in allowing time for client/student self-discovery. No rush to the ‘finish line’. * Digging deep is welcomed and necessary to identify desired change * Providing partnership with compassion and skill to support client/student identified goals is essential in the change process * Ensuring an ethical engagement is provided to all clients/students is non-negotiable * Listening to sustain and change talk….(more to come) * Supporting clients/students as they bridge their preparation of change to actual mobilization of change Ethical and transparent services to clients/students is the foundation. It provides best practices for our clients/students. Clients/students deserve no less. Listening well and respecting the client/student agenda is essential. Learning to turn down the volume in one’s mind allows for respectful and accurate empathy and listening. More conversations about listening and exploring the process of change is on the horizon! Your thoughts?

“Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” John C. Maxwell This quote has always humbled me. Understanding that change may be by invitation or it may grace our lives through unsolicited means. All the same, change is a continuous process and ever present in our lives. How we embrace change is up to us. Easier said than done. The process of change has always been intriguing to me. Process being a series of steps to an end. Almost like writing a story with a prompt provided for us to follow and create from. What is your story…your narrative? How do you navigate change? What we write, the narrative that we create, impacts our mind, heart and soul, and directs our next steps. Potential growth. In the next few posts I will be sharing my humble take on change. From the perspective of an unassuming human, a coach, a therapist, and friend. I hope you journey along with me and share your thoughts…your journey.
