🍾These artists are not boozehounds, they’re just super excited about glass! They helped us divert over 21 pounds of glass today from going into the landfill!! We had a blast touring Jessica’s (center in photo) studio today at The Grange Mercantile in Four Lakes. Jessica creates incredible glass beads and will be experimenting with the melting coefficient of glass bottles to create glass beads. Amy (left in photo) tumbles her glass in a cement mixer and creates beautiful wire-wrapped pieces. Maureen (right) creates mosaics, trees, and more from broken glass, tile, and dishes. Last but not least, we’re so excited to announce that we’ll be hosting Spokane’s first ever Junkyard Jubilee on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Mission Park!! 🗓️Mark your calendars now, because you won’t want to miss it! #cheneywa #medicallakewa #spokanewa #creativeupcycling #glassrecycling #communitybuilding

Jessica Simpkins made a cool composite video of what we’ve been up to this past week! We have some fantastic collaborations in the making with local artists, businesses, and organizations that will help us turn Spokane County’s glass trash into valuable local resources. 👀 More info coming soon about our first ever Junkyard Jubilee to be held in August!!
👀 Take a peek at some of the things we’ve been up to at Let's Build a Community this past week! From learning how 🍷wine bottles can be gravity filled at Wildland Coop to touring our talented 🎨mosaic artist’s studio to 🥽experimenting with food safe methods to remove labels and adhesive from glass containers, we’ve had a lot of fun! Follow along as we transform Spokane County’s waste glass into a valuable material for our community. #spokanewa #glassrecycling #supportlocal #communitybuilding #nonprofitlife

Great day for us at Let's Build a Community!! #spokanewa #supportlocal #communitybuilding #glassrecycling
Gotta love field trips!! Cristina V. and I started our day meeting Michael Townshend at Wildland Coop in Green Bluff. Michael showed us his trusty bottle washer from Aquatech BM (Victor Ederer would have been proud!) 💦 As Mark Odegard can attest, looking at reusing bottles in our community is no small feat given the wide array of bottle types, but it may be possible in smaller batches. We’ll be trying out a batch of bottles for Elz Tastes & Tea Market and see how it goes! We believe a multimodal approach for managing our glass waste in Spokane County is essential. Reuse is one outlet, in addition to working with our local artists for creative upcycling and setting up a facility for pulverization. 🍾 Before lunch, Cristina V. and I visited Mission Park to evaluate it as a potential venue for our August event. We spent some time on the swings— market research of course! 🛝 For lunch, Cristina and I met up with the radiant Pia Hallenberg at My Fresh Basket and talked more about our event for this August (Junkyard Jubilee) and Pia’s hopes and dreams for a second summer of flea markets. After lunch, I spent some time completing overdue tasks on my to-do list so Cristina V. could breathe a little easier. All in all, a wonderful day for us at Let's Build a Community. Many steps closer to bringing our dreams to life! #spokanewa #supportinglocalbusinesses #communitybuilding #nonprofitlife

👨🍳We’re cooking up some exciting things to start turning our glass trash into spectacular treasure! 📋Jessica Simpkins and Cristina V. have been hard at work getting organized. 🎨We had our first meeting with three local glass artists and the infamous Pia Hallenberg. 🍾And we received our first donation of glass bottles!! Keep your eyes peeled for more details as we plan our first major event. If you want to be a part of what we’ve got cooking, let us know! #spokanewa #communitybuilding #upcycling #trashtotreasure #nonprofitlife
