As we reflect on this year and the holiday season, we are especially grateful for our employees! This year brought an active hurricane season with two major hurricanes impacting Lee County just weeks apart. Staff from all departments stepped up to the challenge before, during and after these storms to prepare and respond to what Helene and Milton brought our way. Thank you for all you do every day to make Lee County a better, safer and more resilient place to live, work and play!

Did you know old tires are common breeding grounds for pesky mosquitoes? Because of their shape, tires hold standing water that may be hard to drain. Residents can bring old tires to Lee County Mosquito Control District's upcoming Tire Amnesty Day event on Saturday, Jan. 11, or visit leegov.com/solidwaste for proper disposal guidance.

Even the manatees agree that Southwest Florida is the perfect spot for a winter vacation! Our slow-moving friends have moved into our warmer waters and can be seen at Manatee Park and throughout our local waterways. We may not expect snow in Southwest Florida, but the colder months bring changes to how your lawn behaves and what it needs. Save this lawn care checklist to get ahead for spring and stay informed on the safest fertilizer tips. ✅ Test soil nutrients: Test your nutrients leading up to Spring so that you can prepare a fertilization plan. ✅ Make a fertilization plan: Your plan should include safe fertilization practices with local mandates in mind. ✅ Mow to the right height: Mowing to a higher length in the winter can protect your soil and maintain nutrients. ✅ Water wisely: During winter months, water deeply but infrequently to encourage deeper root growth, while minding local irrigation ordinances. ✅ Fertilize smart: Follow local guidelines for fertilizing at https://lnkd.in/ebN3ygD2
