  • Hey Adobe Workfront aficionados 👋 Recently, in an Ask the Experts session with seasoned Workfront Architect Jacob Bach, BSE, CSM, we explored a topic frequently requested by clients: leveraging parent-child project relationships. Jacob explained the reasons, methods, and best practices for these setups, focusing on five main use cases. Here are the highlights: Use Case #1: Multi-phase Projects Parent-child relationships can be very useful for projects that involve multiple phases. Here, the parent project represents the whole initiative, and each phase is a child project. This breakdown makes complex projects more manageable while still allowing you to track overall progress. For instance, in a drug trial with various review stages, each phase can be a separate child project, allowing for better management and tracking of different timelines. Use Case #2: Cross Departmental Projects For cross-functional marketing projects, using parent-child relationships can increase accountability and visibility across departments. The parent project oversees the entire initiative, while the child projects handle individual departments' tasks. For example, a thought leadership article might require content from in-house experts and an agency, each managed as separate projects but coordinated under a parent project. Use Case #3: Global Campaigns with Regional Variations If you manage global campaigns that need regional adjustments, parent-child relationships help you customize and comply with local demands, like language or marketing style differences. This enables parallel processing, improving the speed to market. Each region can have a child project managing its specific requirements while linking back to the parent project for overall strategy alignment. Use Case #4: Managing Multiple Projects within a Program When managing related projects within a program, a parent-child setup gives clarity and control over each project's status. The parent project manages the overall budget and timeline, while the child projects handle individual project goals. This arrangement allows for better vision over the program's components and connections than conventional program-level objects. Use Case #5: Multi-Deliverable Projects For campaigns with multiple deliverables, such as a brochure, a flyer, and a billboard, parent-child relationships allow individual management of each asset while maintaining a coherent theme across the campaign. By defining the overall look and objectives at the parent level and managing specific assets through child projects, you optimize resource allocation and maintain consistency. Multiple designers can work simultaneously on different aspects, making the project flexible and efficient. These use cases showcase how the parent-child project relationship in Workfront can bring clarity and efficiency to complex projects within Adobe Workfront, ultimately making it easier for teams to manage their tasks and achieve their goals.
