As the holiday season unfolds, let us ignite the spirit of giving by empowering Haiti's youth through the transformative power of education. This past year we have been able to award in-country scholarships in upskilling trades, successfully run two THE SPARK of Le Flambeau English edu cohorts (50+ youth), host a successful youth awards ceremony and roundtable discussion in Haiti, and launched two exciting new scholarships in sustainable agriculture - to youth in Haiti. The need and potential however, is significantly greater. Be a part of the difference and invest in the potential of youth in Haiti for our collective brightest future - Join us as we prepare for the foundation's 20th year (founded in 2005). We urge you to invest and to share this opportunity with family and friends. The Le Flambeau Foundation assists Haiti via Intellectual Infrastructure Development
About us
Le Flambeau Foundation works to provide educational opportunities for talented youth in Haiti, with the vision of further developing the intellectual infrastructure of Haiti. Through various initiatives Le Flambeau Foundation works towards providing access to preparatory English language programing, funding scholarships for higher education, and enabling shorter-term upskilling; all designed to foster circular sustainable in-country professions and job creation for talented youth in Haiti. This is key when you consider that among students completing high school in Haiti, less than 1% are able to access college or other post-secondary school education. Le Flambeau Foundation programming is focused on Haiti’s core growth engines – AGRICULTURE, TECHNOLOGY and BUSINESS. Upon completion, youth scholars make a commitment to extend themselves to other youth in Haiti, working on initiatives that will pass forward the torch and continue to contribute to the economic rebuilding of Haiti.

September 11th is the birthday of Emile Saint-Lôt. The Le Flambeau Foundation exists because of the exceptional passion, hard work, vision, perseverance and tremendous leadership of two fathers, Emile Saint-Lôt is one of them as he is the father of our foundation president whose spirit is at the heart of the Le Flambeau Foundation. His invaluable contributions to the history of Haiti, the global human rights movement, and the independence of nations; lives on. https://lnkd.in/eXzcPWsK #haiti #youth #education #scholarships hashtag #caphaitien #udhr

Congratulations to the winners of the THE SPARK of Le Flambeau Spring 2024 session! The Le Flambeau Foundation (LFF) honored these exceptional young people during a ceremony held on August 1, 2024, in Limonade, Haiti. The event took place at the premises of our community partner for this session, Club Fermina. Celebrating its 15th year, THE SPARK of Le Flambeau is an online program designed to empower Haitian youth aged 16 to 27. It fosters critical thinking, English language fluency, and leadership skills. Past participants have achieved impressive successes, including college degrees, career advancements, and entrepreneurship. The ceremony opened with a tribute to Dr. Luc L. Colas, a visionary founding spirit of LFF. A distinguished professor of law, medicine, and philosophy, Dr. Colas would gather young people at his home in Cap-Haïtien. There, he sparked critical thinking and leadership by engaging them in discussions in English and French/Kreyol. That was 20+ years ago. Inspired by the transformative impact of these sessions, Dr. Colas’ teaching model, with the input of high school students in the U.S. and in Haiti, evolved into the online collaboration that is THE SPARK of Le Flambeau. On behalf of the Le Flambeau Foundation, a heartfelt thank you is extended to our volunteer English Grader Ms. Alexis (Floyd)! Her exceptional dedication and passion fueled the minds of Haitian youth participating in our weekly program, even amidst Haiti’s current circumstances. We also extend a warm THANK YOU to Babbel for their partnership in providing complimentary 2-year English Learning codes to the top students in this class. This spirit of mutual support embodies Le Flambeau Foundation's core principle: we empower each other to empower others. Together, we pave the way to a brighter future. The next session will be focused on young ladies. Merci! We honor and celebrate Freedom Day known as Juneteenth. Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas received news of their freedom two years after the emancipation proclamation, which marked the effective end of slavery in the United States. As we celebrate liberation, we reflect on the struggle for racial equality, and honor the ongoing quest for a more just society for all.

Fatherhood takes many shapes. As the Le Flambeau Foundation president shared, fathers are like the bow of an archer, while mothers are the string. Together, they propel their children, the arrows, towards their potential. This powerful image, passed down from his own father,- a towering figure in Haitian and global history, To learn more click here https://lnkd.in/ei_HDHRy #fathersday #haiti #education #youth #dad #history #udhr #universaldeclarationofhumanrights

The following article is a re-print from our archives, originally published on Jun 15, 2012, written by a THE SPARK of Le Flambeau alumni member – Hernice Exare. At the time Hernice was learning English – he excelled and completed this article as it is (unedited), in English. "I start my perspective today with this little phrase: “No one is good citizenship, if it is not a good father”, to tell you that I see the paternity or the quality of a father as an important and highly influential factor in the functioning of a society. We all know that the family is a small group which consists of the father, the mother and their children. In this small society, I see the father as being the leading senior and responsible and concerned"... about his family despite the circumstances of life, and to guarantee and ensure the vitality and spiritual, moral, physical, educational, social and cultural development of his children and his entire family. I see in the fatherhood the quality to be a friend, a guide, a compass with the slightest movement, gesture, effects or action; influencing greatly the life and the fate of each child – because man is a being of relationship and relationships."...to read more click here https://lnkd.in/enk_5H85 #haiti #fatherhood #youtheducation #education #englishlearning

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the fallen heroes who built the foundation of our nation, including those who fought in the Battle of Savannah on October 9th 1779. We pay our deepest respects to the fallen soldiers, from all backgrounds and nationalities, who defended our freedoms. Their sacrifice unites us in searching for a more perfect union. In this spirit of service, we urge you to consider volunteering or making a donation to a local veteran support organization. https://lnkd.in/esgVcTit #MemorialDay #ImmigrantHeritage #SiegeofSavannah #DecorationDay #veteranorganizations #education

Ms. Deb Fallahay, who served as the educational advisor and grader in the THE SPARK of Le Flambeau exchange program for three years (2010-2012), contributed this heartwarming story. While working as the assistant director for the executive MBA program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Deb Fallahay dedicated her personal time to empowering youth in Haiti. An excellent read. https://lnkd.in/exxjYvQZ #Education #Haiti #youthleadership #Languagelearning #Englishlearning #edutech
