  • CMO: Our demographic targeting is perfect, but our conversions are terrible. Our CAC is through the roof, and I can't figure out why. Agency: The truth is, traditional targeting strategies aren't performing like they used to. CMO: What? But we know exactly who our ideal customer is... Agency: When customers see "this product is for working moms who like yoga," they think, "That's nice, but it doesn't apply to me.” CMO: (Aggressively opens demographic data dashboard) Agency: We’ve seen it a million times... brands create detailed personas, invest heavily in targeting them, and then watch their return on ad spend decline. It's a case of right audience, wrong moment. CMO: Yeah, our ROAS has definitely been steadily declining.... Agency: Then companies typically panic and think, "We just need more first-party data!" while their competition pulls ahead. CMO: This is painfully accurate. Please continue. Agency: What if we shifted focus from WHO we're targeting to WHEN we're targeting them? CMO: (Closes LinkedIn audience targeting tab) Agency: Your detailed personas are valuable, but they're missing a crucial element—the moment of need. CMO: That might explain why we have 90% awareness but a 2% conversion rate. Agency: Exactly. We need to move beyond thousand-page persona documents. CMO: But understanding our customer avatar has been central to my entire strategy! Agency: That knowledge is still important, but let's add timing to the equation. Agency: First, isn't someone more likely to buy when they're actively feeling the problem? CMO: ...of course Agency: And don't your highest-performing ads all tap into specific situations? CMO: Well, yes... go on Agency: In fact, haven't your highest-converting campaigns already been tapping into specific moments? CMO: (Quietly closes quarterly targeting report) Agency: So maybe you're overthinking the WHO. CMO: WAIT! I'm having a moment! Let me break this down... CMO: Every major win we've had wasn't about perfect demographic targeting—it was about perfect timing. We've been so focused on audience segments that we forgot people don't convert just because they match our target demographic. They convert because they're experiencing a specific problem at a specific moment. We need to map moments, not just markets. No wonder our media budget is burning faster than my morning coffee. Agency: That was chef's kiss. Now, let's build a strategy around it.

  • We've seen it time and time again.  Brands thinking they've nailed their positioning, only to realize they're blending into the background. 🫥 The culprit? Generic, interchangeable statements that could apply to any company in their industry. Let's face it: If you can swap out your company name for a competitor's and the statement still makes sense, you've failed at positioning. If your brand’s bland positioning statement is costing you revenue, we're here to help you stand out. Let's look at some examples and how to fix them. 👇 B2B Service Provider: ↳ Bad: "We deliver innovative solutions for your business needs." ↳ Better: "We provide AI-powered inventory forecasting that cuts waste by 40% for mid-sized grocers." CPG Company: ↳ Bad: "Quality products at affordable prices." ↳ Better: "We offer ethically sourced, small-batch spices with transparent pricing, letting home cooks create restaurant-quality dishes without breaking the bank." Financial Bank: ↳ Bad: "Empowering people to achieve their dreams." ↳Better: "We provide microloans and financial literacy training to women-owned startups in rural communities, helping them grow from side hustles to thriving local businesses." The key? Specificity. Your positioning should answer these 4 questions: 1. Who exactly are you serving? 2. What precise problem are you solving? 3. How are you solving it in a way no one else is? 4. What measurable impact do you create? 👁 Eye-opening stat: Companies with clear #brandpositioning can see a 2-3 times increase in market share (Business Insider, 2022). 📈 So, how do we fix this epidemic of bland positioning? 👉 Get ruthlessly honest about your true differentiators. 👉 Narrow your focus - you can't be everything to everyone. 👉 Use concrete language and avoid buzzwords. 👉 Include measurable outcomes whenever possible. 👉 Test your statement - if your team can't immediately explain how it's unique to your brand, keep refining. Remember, a strong positioning statement isn't just marketing fluff. It's the North Star that guides your product development, #marketing strategies, and company culture.
