This week, the KSHC team came together to celebrate the holidays at our annual Christmas party. It was a wonderful way to pause and reflect on all that this year has brought us—growth, learning, challenges, and triumphs. Through every high and low, we’ve stayed focused on our mission and leaned on each other as a team. Moments like this remind us how important it is to take time to connect, celebrate, and appreciate the hard work and dedication that each person brings to the table. We’re so grateful for this amazing group of people and for the work we get to do together. Here’s to a season of joy, reflection, and looking forward to an even brighter year ahead! Merry Christmas and happy holidays from all of us at KSHC!

We are perpetually more focused on finding the right message than we are on finding the right messengers. If we are going to credibly push back on the rising tide of criminalization of homelessness, that needs to change. Despite the often-fraught relationship between law enforcement and homeless services, please note the authority offered to Douglas County Sheriff Armbrister here: "Arresting people for minor crimes stemming from homelessness puts law enforcement officials in a difficult position. While they want to serve the public and hold people accountable for their actions, the continual arrests cost tax dollars without addressing the underlying problem. Douglas County Sheriff Armbrister said it’s a cycle that could keep repeating without ever addressing the underlying issues, making it a mostly futile effort. He said lawmakers who want police to beef up their response to minor crimes committed by homeless people are looking for easy solutions to a complex problem. “I look at it as a housing problem,” Armbrister said of growing homelessness in his community. “It's a systemic problem some folks look at as a criminal problem.” https://lnkd.in/e7iBCjW9
