Guided by the principle of "Every Child, Every Day," The Torah School of Greater Washington (TSGW) integrates modern educational practices with timeless Torah values. Rabbi Shmuel Lichtenstein, TSGW's head of school, explains how the school has embraced Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a research-based framework that promotes flexible teaching to accommodate diverse learners. Read more about how TSGW is a living example of how Jewish education can evolve to serve every student's need in our latest blog post. https://lnkd.in/eTt-FURJ

"I wanted to reach out to thank you for the opportunity you provided for my teachers to participate in the workshop series. Both Maya and Gili came back to school this morning energized by the learning and the shared experience with colleagues from other schools." -Melanie Eisen , Gesher Jewish Day School's Principal of Teaching and Learning Jewish educators from Gesher, Berman Hebrew Academy, Torah School of Greater Washington, Yeshiva of Greater Washington, and Alef Bet Montessori returned to JEIC's offices this week for the second of four Empowering Teachers to Implement Intrinsic Motivation in School professional development sessions. The teachers will apply these skills to create or enhance their Chanukah plans with embedded opportunities for intrinsic motivation. The 90-minute sessions were developed by JEIC Managing Director Sharon Freundel and Managing Director Rabbi Shmuel Feld in partnership with BetterLesson coach Joan Vander Walde, who is facilitating the workshops as well. How did a Gross Schechter Day School teacher translate his love and knowledge of Jewish content into more polished and effective classroom instruction? Through Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies Center’s Jewish Studies In-Service Teacher Training year-long training and coaching program. In the third issue of The DEEP Dive, The DEEP Consortium’s quarterly e-journal, you'll get the teacher, administrator and mentor's perspective on: ✏️How JSITT provided the tools to bridge the gap between a teacher's enthusiasm for conveying Jewish values to his students and structuring those structure classes effectively. ✏️How JSITT’s program helped a teacher identify weaknesses in lesson structure and develop new strategies to deliver content-rich, well-planned instruction. ✏️ How JSITT coaching sessions helped unpack teaching challenges and drove self-reflection and growth. ✏️How a JSIIT educator coach in Europe helped connect the dots between teacher training in Cleveland and similar needs in cities like Helsinki and Istanbul, underscoring the global importance of educator development. Powered by the Hadar Institute, Pedagogy of Partnership (PoP) offers an extensive menu of trainings and resources for Jewish educators, schools, and families. PoP's innovative approach is guided by the core belief that how we learn is as important as what we learn. Last month, JEIC Managing Director Sharon Freundel explored an aspect of the dilemma of how we can do the best for each and every one of our students. This month, she looks at a totally different manifestation of the same question. That is the amount of time it takes to develop passionate, trained teachers. https://lnkd.in/d4e3cX8C

Earlier this year, JEIC and Prizmah unveiled their Jewish Day School Educator Pipeline Playbook, a series of 36 new ideas designed to advance the pipeline of Jewish day school educators. Since then, JEIC and Touro University virtually hosted 25 representatives from Jewish day schools, higher learning institutions, Jewish education bureaus, foundations, and day school networks -- all organizations that have an interest in placing and retaining educators. The representatives collectively articulated the underlying causes of the teacher pipeline shortage and shared what their organizations are doing to address these issues. This week, the cohort met in person at Touro's Manhattan campus to begin refining specific actions they can take collaboratively, creating greater efficiency and economy of scale. They will continue to develop plans for implementation and launch new efforts to recruit and retain Jewish educators in day schools. Thank you to all of our partners in this important initiative! JEIC Managing Director Sharon Freundel and Founding Director Rabbi Shmuel Feld joined renowned social psychologist and author Dr. Jonathan Haidt and Jewish scholar Dr. Mijal Bitton for a conversation on "Building Our Children's Moral Foundation." At this discussion, hosted by the The Tikvah Fund and The The Rabbi Sacks Legacy's Global Day of Learning, participants explored how the wider culture and digital media are impacting young people's character development, how Jewish wisdom can help inform parents navigating these challenges, and how communities of faith can work together to inculcate a sense of civic responsibility in the rising generation.
